Residency meaning?
#1
What does residency mean when online universities like UMUC say that they only accept up to 90 credit transfer? Does it mean that the remaining 30 credits can only taken from them... or do they mean that I still take the remaining courses from institutions like study.com while being an officially enrolled student?

It means you have to take it from the school itself.

That's why the Big 3 are the big three... all but 3-6 credits can be transferred in. Almost no residency credits.

(Note, some schools have a more literal residency requirement, meaning you have to take brick and mortar classes. this is less and less common now though, since online courses have been widely normalized)

Yep, most schools need at least 30 of the 120 taken at the school itself. Some require even more from the school itself.

Hi! I saw you just finished from WGU cause I'm also looking at it. How did you go about? Did you also take those 30 credits from them?

You have to check the rules of the specific schools. When a school requires 30 hours of residency, it is likely to mean the last 30 hours must be taken at the school. 30 hours spread throughout the 120 might not meet the requirement. Read the general catalog carefully instead of going by what I type.

Since I was finishing a second degree with WGU (my first was with TESU), they required me to take at least 30 credits with them. I did well over that (I believe 71? Out of 123), and don't mind having done so because (other than IT certification courses) their courses can be moved through just as fast as ACE credits.

WGU is only clear about residency requirements on 2nd degrees; it's clearly spelled out on their site. But I can't find anything on first degrees. It's possibly the same, but I find it odd that they only speak of residency in regards to 2nd degrees.
