Study Suggestions for DSST history exams Please!!(1st time)
#1
As you know, the history exams are packed with a ton of names, dates, and important events throughout the years.I am currently studying for the Civil War and Reconstruction exam, and would like to know if anyone has any great tips to tackle the material in 4 days? Are there any free practice exams for the civil war/reconstruction,concise study guides, and timelines that helped you while studying? I love history so my problem is I am constantly going in depth with every little thing which is probably unnecessary haha This is also my first DSST so I'm not really sure what to expect.I'm excited though!
Thanks!

It has been a while, but these were good resources. I wouldn't necessarily use them exclusively.

SparkNotes: The Civil War 1850

SparkNotes: Reconstruction (1865

dtp study guides: dantes

Good luck!

My daughter recently took this, and we kept hearing how she needed to memorize each of the battles, the generals and who won. So we just googled a quick fact sheet and she memorized that perfectly. It's a lot about facts- dates, presidents and other important people. She took a semester of American History through Reconstruction, read this book and thats it. : Robot Check

I did not take the Civil War DSST, but will give out my stock advice for every test taker - sign up for IC and access the Specific Exam Feedback section. Look up the Civil War exam and you will find tons of valuable info from folks who have actually taken the test - what you need to know, what resources are the most helpful, etc. The SEF has guided me through all my CLEPs, DSSTs, and UExcels...

I second the Specific Exam Feedback telling you everything you need to study. My strategy was to write down every term, person, or phrase that people listed and made a study guide out of that by digging deeper into each. Mostly just Googling each and copying the first summary that Google would give me. Most of the time you don't need to memorize, you just need to be familiar enough to be able to recognize the answer when it comes up
