Actually my mother was public schooled, and based on her experience, she decided not to do that with her kids and homeschooled us. Based on what I see in private school, I wouldn't even want to put my kids in that environment, so I want to homeschool as well. We are quite aware.

It's not as though I'm claiming public schools are perfect. I had my fair share of poor teachers and unpleasant social experiences. But that's life. The bad and the good are often inseparable.

I went to public school until high school. I went to a Catholic high school.

I wouldn't know my best friend of 15 years if I didn't go to school. I played 4 years of 3 sports in high school and loved every minute of that. I got college credit from the IB program.

I have a great relationship with my siblings. And my parents were able to continue their own educations and further their careers during the same time frame.

I think it is what you make of it.

It's odd that someone as old as your mother was taught that "homosexuality is positive" and experienced all of the other things you said, but this is not how most public schools operate. My sister graduated from high school 4 years ago and never experienced the things you said.

Public schools have deteriorated - I'm speaking of the state they're in now. And religious private schools don't teach homosexuality or evolution, yet the very school atmosphere and social interactions there... I wouldn't want that for my kids.

Yeah, you have to keep in mind that Westerner is counting a reduction in discrimination as a negative.

No one "teaches" homosexuality. And my Catholic high school had religious education and accurate science.

But, you basically said your account of public schools is coming from your mother's experience. What has been your recent first-hand or second-hand experience with public schools because your account is way out there?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I am guessing that maybe your public schools are better because you live in Texas. I suppose this would be the least likely state where these messages would be taught.

I'm really curious about these homosexuality curricula.

So you were taught this before high school? Maybe this answers your original question of why some people choose to homeschool.
