Any thoughts from the group that have already attempted this program through Thomas Edison. I am contemplating what is a better move -- to start the PLA or focus strongly on studying and tetsing more CLEP/Dante. I have mixed bag of of 24 credits so far from Dante, and College.

Has anyone taken this test, how was it and is instantcert enough to passthis one without much of a problem? Thanks

I Would Have Found Instantcert Back In December Of '04 , Pushed My Self To Start 8 Months Ahead Of When I Started And Stopped Second Guessing Myself About Being Able To Do This Program. [SIZE="2"][COLOR="Blue"]I was wondering if anyone here in the IC group has any background on material contained in the SAT (Scholastic Apptitude Test) Math exam is comparable with that of the material in CLEP - College Mathematics?

The reason I ask is that it appears to me (a mathematics caveman who still uses finger and toes) that if they are similar perhaps SAT materials such as VIDEOS and DVD's might be helpful?

I feel study material costs are the most valuable investment. That is why I didn't hesitate to sign-up with instantcert and also a reason I will purchase other study guides in addition to instantcert to make sure I pass an exam. I figure that I am already saving tremendous amounts of cash by getting credit through exams instead of expensive colleges, so I don't feel bad about $20 here-and-there.

If I fix my own car and need to buy special tools to do the job, I don't feel bad about it so long as I save several hundred in the process. The same philosophy.

So I do encourage people to pay to take practice tests online or get additional study material if they feel it will improve their score and chances to pass and also boost their confidence. It is a small price to pay for the large future benefits.

I know some people that will say no to instantcert when I mention the $20/month and I just shrug and shake my head!

A cheap way to get college textbooks is to look up college courses at the above sites (TESC) and find the current text book they are using for courses. Then go to Amazon and look up used texts of older editions and you can often find excellent books for less than $5!

I'm studying for this for Tuesday. Looks like a focus on pharmacology and alcohol. But I'm wondering if I'll have to know each and every effect/withdrawl symptom of each drug... I can barely pronounce half of them! :eek:

I was curious how much actual time I've put into my degree. So, I tallied it up today for my blog and thought I'd post it here too:

My last Dantes test is scheduled for May 9. Assuming that I haven't/don't flunk/ed any of the Dantes tests, I've effectively spent about 6 months of actual study time to get my 4 year bachelor degree. Or, if you want a time line:

2 months, 1 week: I had 14 credits from previous study prior to January 9, 04. (I spent a week in '03 preparing for English Composition with Essay CLEP and had 8 credits from a semester (two months) at community college.) (14 total credits.)

(Went to unaccredited Christian college during this time. No credits are eligible for transfer. :-P)

1 week: About a week in December '04 was spent preparing for the Humanities CLEP. (20 total credits.)

1 month and a half: Beginning when I returned from visiting Rita Jan 6, '05 to Feb 16, '05 I took 16 CLEPs for 54 credits. (74 total credits.)

Then I moved to Illinois and busied myself with wooing, getting engaged then married, and being a newly-wed for a year or so. :-D

1 month and a week: I started up again March 10th and attained 39 credits between then and April 18 via five CLEPs and 3 Dantes. (113 total credits.)

1 day: I took four of those FEMA tests yesterday for four credit hours. (117 total credits.)

And I'll probably spend about a week and a half preparing for my last Dantes May 9 (the soonest I could schedule to take it).

Assuming my math is correct, and that I haven't flunked anything, that's 5 months and three weeks.

I think that's pretty spiffy. Of course, the one thing that may put a kink in this sweet timeline is that I have a bad feeling that I may have failed Introduction to the Modern Middle East last week. As I said in another post, it was an extremely detailed and difficult test. I honestly think I learned a lot preparing for it, so I'm not upset that I took it, but it was the most difficult test I've ever taken. If I pass it even by the slimmest of margins, I'll be very happy.

Anyway, if you remove the "dead-time" when I was pursuing other things, I've spent about 6 months total going for this degree, and at least 4 of the months were while working full time. That rocks, quite honestly. Why people spend four years and $$$$$ for a general education degree at a normal institution is beyond me.

I plan on testing Wed for this exam. I'm not that confident yet. How well should I do on the CollegeBoard practice test to pass the real exam? I got a 55% the other day and plan on taking it again tonight.

Are there any other tests that are recommended that people have used as practice tests and what score do you think is necessary to be considered ready for the real exam?
