  Okay...iam A Chicken
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 04-17-2006, 09:45 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Two tests to go 'til graduation and they are clep math amd natural science. I am a chicken regarding the math.... scared as all get out in fact..so Iam electing to take the science first. I have the Barron's clep science book and the passyourclass natural science study guides and I know alot of you say use tyhe biology section of instantcert and i'll do that as well. Has anyone taken this test recently that can give me a specific feel for the test and how difficult it will be for someone out of school for 30 years who never liked science or math in the first place. Help please!!

  Dantes Civil War
Posted by: Nodean - 04-14-2006, 11:19 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I took my civil war test yesterday an felt pretty good, thanks RBOWMAN and everyone else who answered my questions. I used instantcert primarily with the Ken Burns PBS series as a supplement. I did not have a chance to purschase the Redmans book. I would encourage new test takers to do so. I was challeneged by the wording of the questions. I felt I had a strong grasp of the material but was confused @ times with their answer options. My particular test had quite a few questions regarding reconstruction, very little about medical treatment ( one question on Clara barton ) and not quite as many battle related questions as I had anticipated. I went back and counted and came up with 50 I felt I nailed so that left me with quite a few that could have went either way. I feel instantcert prepared me well. Now the wait!

  Military CLEP Testing
Posted by: kitanis - 04-13-2006, 08:47 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I think it depends on the military facility..

But here at Ellsworth AFB I just took American History II on a paper test. I asked how long before I know the score.. and the guy told me 4-6 weeks! My last installlation had a scoring system in place for such things...

I think the next time I take a test.. I am going to pay for the local college to administer the test on computer. Might make the waiting more bearable for me.

But the test seemed to be quite easy.. so here's hopping.. :-)

  DANTES/DSST score info
Posted by: siersema - 04-13-2006, 07:12 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi All;

I'm taking my first DSST exam tomorrow and have a quick question. I understand it's a written exam, so not exactly like CLEP. I was wondering what the process is to get the score to the school (excelsior in my case). Is there a list of schools to choose from during the test like there is with CLEP, or is there another procedure?

  Easiest Dante of These:

I need to take one of the following tests to meet all of my upper level degree requirements (they're upper level at TESC, anyway). Any of them. Doesn't matter which. Which one, given the required score (listed after each), do you think is the "easiest" over all?

Environment and Humanity: The Race to Save the Planet ......46
Money and Banking.........................................................48
The Civil War and Reconstruction.......................................47
Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union........................................45
Organizational Behavior....................................................48
Drug and Alcohol Abuse....................................................49

Thanks.

  Average Length Of Time Studying???
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 04-12-2006, 03:35 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (15)

As I have now earned 81 credits in seven months, I find myself alittle curious as to how much time on average my fellow students spend preparing for Clep or Dantes testing? I now regret how I overstudied for the first four or five Clep exams only to realize that I could have speeded this process up if I had been alittle more aggressive. At about the sixth or seventh test I realized I could easily pass the tests with 3 days of studying. Any other comments.. I know I was not the only one taking too much time between tests.

  Another calculator question
Posted by: hunter2115 - 04-12-2006, 01:54 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I'm shopping for a calculator that will serve me well for both the DSST Statistics and the Financial Management exams. It seems kinda hard to get good info about which ones are "legal". Math is not my best subject, so I want a calculator that will give the "most bang for the buck". I note that the Texas Instruments TI-30Xa seems to be a favorite for Stats- I wonder if it would be a good choice for Financial Management as well? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
