The Final Frontier: Capstone LIB-4970 or LIB-4950 for BACS and TESU's Recent Changes
#21
I have to agree with @Jonathon Whatley. Unless someone comes here and tells us that their TESU Capstone course required original research, and new knowledge (something that typically comes with graduate levels of education), I don't believe it requires such effort. I would think you could also use a soft CS topic like UI Design and have it accepted.

Otherwise, this is not a research paper.

You're getting hung up on definitions of research paper from contexts much more ambitious than a single undergraduate course.

The TESU computer science capstone course is scheduled for 12 weeks, and it's divided into six modules we can infer are likely designed to be completed in approximately two weeks each. Maybe a few modules are one week and a few modules are three weeks.
  • Module 1: Capstone Topic Selection
  • Module 2: Organization and Research Strategies
  • Module 3: A Review of the Literature
  • Module 4: Discussions and Conclusions
  • Module 5: Academic Research Presentation
  • Module 6: Finalizing and Submitting the Capstone Project
The heart of the paper is a literature review with its major part principally written in approximately two weeks part-time by a single undergraduate student. TESU does not provide resources to conduct experiments nor indicate in the syllabus students are expected to provide resources to conduct experiments. No IRB is mentioned in the computer science capstone syllabus.

The TESU computer science capstone research project is an undergraduate literature review plus discussion and conclusions.
Thanks Jonathan,

So i went back on email with Early advisor after admission to help you ( remember real advisor/teacher/professor for the course only assigned once you register for the class). She stated that i can fail everyday and take it next day but i need to pay minimal fee (i think she mentioned $50) for retakes. but you must PASS --failing is not an option. otherwise you fail the course.
I am going to figure out that how can that be studied.

The voucher with course is one time prepaid by your fee.
BACS - TESU Transfer Credit 243 but only require 3 credits for (LIB-4970) Capstone Project (117 transferred towards degree) to complete the BA in Comp Sci.
PhD—Morgan State, waiting (in 2nd round now)
PhD - University of the Cumberlands—Quit after some courses (Poor faculty and grading quality) and retain the ABD status
MAOL - UMPI
BBA - UMPI Accounting
BLS - IT & PM UMPI

MSc - e-Business Abrdeeen University
BSc - Infornation Technology  Univesity of London

In my opinion, this ETS aligns more with BS in Computer Science degrees rather than BA programs. Even among BS CS degrees, the course content can vary quite a bit. We’re missing some core courses that might actually show up on the exam.

In the LIB-4970 doc it says:

"You will receive a total score on a scale between 120 and 200. You are not expected to know the answer to every question on the test. There will be some questions about material that is unfamiliar to you. Do not worry! The important thing is to answer the questions using the knowledge you have. Students who make an effort and answer every question usually earn an “A” or “B,” even if there were a number of questions they did not know. Your Major Field Test grade is determined on a broader scale than the one used for typical course exams. You do not, for example, need to get 93% correct to get an “A.” Performance on the test does not affect your eligibility to graduate, but you must take the test, submit your score, and receive a grade in your gradebook in order to pass LIB-4970."

I'm guessing this isn't accurate anymore.

That's strange. In my opinion, the ETS aligns more with BS in Computer Science degrees rather than BA programs. Even among BS CS degrees, the course content can vary quite a bit, so having a standardized test feels a bit off. We’re missing some core courses that might actually show up on the exam.

In the LIB-4970 doc it says:

"You will receive a total score on a scale between 120 and 200. You are not expected to know the answer to every question on the test. Again, it sounds unfair that even they know there will be content we are unfamiliar with, yet it's a pass fail. Is that confirmed? Because on the doc it says 120-200.

It's a standardized test. It's really for the school to grade themselves on outcomes rather than a test of your knowledge. That's why they aren't counting the score in your grade. I'd guess a pass is a fairly low bar to get over.
