My wife is a certified teacher from the Philippines and is also certified in the US. She was only one class away from finishing her Master's degree when her immigration paperwork was processed. Unfortunately, because it has now been more than five years, her university in the Philippines requires her to start the program completely over if she wants to finish it there.
We had her credentials evaluated in 2023frpm SpanTran, and her official report states:
- Undergraduate: Bachelor’s degree in elementary education (with a concentration in mathematics).
- Graduate: Completion of 36 semester credit hours of graduate study in educational administration (evaluated as equivalent to a regionally-accredited US institution).
We are trying to figure out her best options for completing her Master's degree without starting from scratch. I have briefly looked into competency-based programs like UMPI and WGU, but I wanted to ask those with more experience:
[*]Any advice, school recommendations, or alternative pathways would be greatly appreciated!

UMPI doesn't offer a master's in education. WGU only accepts students in the US.
The credentials may need to be reevaluated because they're a few years old. Have you looked at TESU? Charter Oak State College (COSC) might be another option.

Look for programs that might accept transfer credit. There is a separate thread here on the forum about schools that have (relatively) generous transfer policies for master's degrees. Ones that come to mind are Columbia Southern, American College of Education, University of the People ... perhaps Walden or Capella?

A better option may be to do the M.Ed through
ETAMU as they have one called "
Master of Education (M.Ed) in Instructional Design." So not only do you get the M.Ed/Ed.M (however you want to abbreviate it), but it also specializes in a useful area that I believe would pair well with your wife's undergrad degree and concentration. I did mine through WPUNJ 2 years ago, but that was on the government's dollar.
It would be $2,000 a term which is about 7 weeks long for an all-you-can-quaff of graduate credits.
It's also part of the Texas A&M system, so there's some weight behind the name too.

It's a great option and possibly the perfect match for this individual based on experience, cost, and name! The only other option that I would suggest is the American College of Education that Ashkir usually recommends. There are multiple options for their M.Ed program that I believe also ladders towards some completion of their Ed.S and possibly some of the Ed.D program as well. Cost is anywhere between $9K - $10K which is still much more affordable compared to other universities. WPUNJ's M.Ed program was $17k, granted, I only paid $60 every semester due to a waiver which came out to be $300 total for my program (a helluva deal for U.S.-based masters program). I did buy a book for roughly $30 out of pocket to complete some quizzes.
