Excelsior NOT Accepting Police Academy Credits
Posted by: ImustStudy - 11-16-2007, 03:53 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Upon examining my evaluation summary, I noticed that Excelsior DID NOT grant me any credit for the classes I took at the police academy. TESC did however recognize these classes and awarded credit.

This is odd because the academy was through a regionally accredited California Community College.

I asked my Excelsior advisor and she said that credit was not granted because the classes were "certificate" and not degree applicable courses. She said that they confirmed that with the community college.

IMHO that is hogg wash. The college awards an Associates Degree and those classes are a part of the program.

Anyone had a similar experience in their field of expertise??

Whatever, I'll just make up for the 20 units with FEMA credits.

Anyone want to join me in a class on "The role of Bovine Animals and Marsupials in Emergency Response."??

Saddle up boys!!! Yeeeea haw!!

  Failed English again!!!
Posted by: derf1840 - 11-15-2007, 12:16 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

For all of you that are about to take English Comp with essay.....don't get to discouraged because of this post. It is a very doable exam.

I have failed this exam now for the second time. My score was much lower than the first time I took it. My problem is that I can not finish either portion of the exam in the time span given. My GPA to this point has been nothing less then 3.8.....And I can't even pass an English test. Very discouraging!!!!

I have given up on this test. I have three test to complete the BSN. I was hoping that some of you out their had some experience with the TECEP exams. I am thinking of writing the TECEP English test.

The other test I have yet to do is the DSST Statistics. I am extremely worried about this one. I have several study aids for this one (Standard deviants DVD's, Idiots guide. Also, workbook for dummy's and of course IC). However, I am having issues grasping the concepts. I hope that some of you can shed some light on this one for me. I would appreciate any feedback
Thanks
Fred

Taking a CLEP with little/no prior knowledge?
Posted by: jkmicronix - 11-15-2007, 10:31 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Hey all,

I'm new here and I was wondering if any of you have ever decided to take one of the lower level CLEP/DANTES for a subject that you didn't know all that much about.

Is it possible to simply choose a subject, study like nuts, and pass comfortably?

Thanks.

ps, this place rocks!

I was going through the Idiot's Guide to Statistics and I noticed that they gave a different standard deviation formula than did some of the other books I was using. Did anyone else notice the same thing? I am scheduled to take this next Wednesday. Also if anyone has anyother information on the exam, that would be greatly appreciated.

  Study Schedules (testing out)
Posted by: joestuart - 11-14-2007, 01:03 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi all,

I am taking a leave of absence from work to focus all of my energy on earning an associates degree through Excelsior– with the intent of pursuing a bachelors degree afterwards. My plan is to test out, earning 51 credits within 3 months.

Would anyone care to share “testing out” study techniques/schedules which have brought forth proven success? I do understand study habits/schedules are arbitrarily dependent on the person.

(FYI: I’m am using instacert along with REA Clep guides)

Any input would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Important!! Excelsior Policy Changes Effective January 1, 2008 L@@k!
Posted by: ImustStudy - 11-13-2007, 08:34 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (14)

I just received an email from Excelsior today that shared the following program changes for all students. Please be aware that if you want to pick and choose which classes are on your transcript you must do so ASAP or risk keeping the lousy grades on thier. Just an FYI

See below.

[COLOR="Blue"]Recently, President Ebersole has shared some exciting news with you. As of January 1, 2008, students meeting eligibility requirements can qualify to receive federal financial aid benefits. Some of our academic policies and procedures will be changing as of that date. We would like to highlight some of these important changes because they may impact your academic record.

Policy Changes as of January 1, 2008

Transcripts issued by the College will reflect two Grade Point Averages (GPA): one for credits earned through Excelsior College courses and examinations (ECGPA indicated as "Institutional" GPA) and an overall GPA that will reflect the combination of credits earned through Excelsior College courses and examinations, and any credits accepted in transfer.

“D” grades from other institutions will no longer be accepted in transfer on or after January 1, 2008.

All grades, including “D,” “F” and “W” grades, earned in an Excelsior course or on an Excelsior College Examination will be posted on Excelsior College transcripts after January 1, 2008.

Credits in excess of what is needed to complete your degree requirements will no longer be listed on your Excelsior College status report or transcript as of January 1, 2008. Excess credits that are already listed on your status report or transcript will remain; however, if you are considering removing credits to improve your GPA, you must do so in writing prior to January 1, 2008. Please contact us soon if you are considering this option.

  US History 1 help?
Posted by: Texas Gal - 11-13-2007, 01:08 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Ok....so I was scheduled to take the US History 1 test tomorrow:eek: , but due to not being ready, I will be postponing it for a week...any suggestions on what to do to up my scores? I am doing CollegePlus! as some of you may be doing as well, and I have found that it's a mite difficult to remember stuff that I hadn't reviewed in over 2 years in less than a week and a half...any suggestions?

My coach had said to find some good books to read on US Hsitory, but as to that, I am at a bit of a loss. :p

I'm using the Instacert (naturally)Wink , the REA book, and I'm reading the Patriot's guide to the United States (very long and dry book imho). Anything else you would suggest?

Thanks in advance! Big Grin
