| Biology or Financial Acctg Next? |

Hi y'all,
Now that I've passed Macro (67) and Micro (65), I'm ready to move on. I have two more tests to study for: Biology and Financial Acctg. Here are my questions:
Which test would should I go for next? I know a 'little' about acctg and nada about biology. Can I learn what I need to know from zip to pass biology?
Since the IC cards aren't specific to Fin Acctg how helpful will they be? I don't want to waste a bunch of time on Mng Acctg b/c I am required to take that course anyway in absence of a qualifying CLEP. What does anyone think about the usefulness of the IC cards for the new Fin Acctg CLEP?

Wow, what a difference a day makes. This exam was actually kind of fun to take. 30 multiple choice questions, 5 short answer questions worth 5 points each and 3 essay type questions worth 15 points each.
I did order and scan through the suggested book and followed the suggests on this board. In addition, I found it helpful to actually hear the gurus speak about Strategy. It kind of put me in the mood for the essay type questions and let me see how much stressing certain words and concepts is nessesary and actually makes the test easier.
A couple of tips...it was suggested that you formulize in your head what basic concepts that pertain to Stategy that you want to include in your essay questions. This is a good point in the sense that you don't need to approach the test like a deer in headlights. Plan a portion ahead of time and fill in specifics once you see the questions.
Another thing that helped me was to formulate in my mind companies that are an actual example of the topics discussed. In other words, when discussing low cost strategy, if you think of WalMart, then when addressing an essay question you can use WalMart as an example of low cost strategy and have an endless arsenal of things to talk about.
I found a free video interview of Michael Porter (the guru and influential author) at this link. A rebroadcast of an hour with professor at Harvard Business School Michael Porter - Charlie Rose
I also found an article about What is Strategy by Michael Porter that was transposed to an audio file and is for sale for $2.99 at What Is Strategy? -- Michael E. Porter
The video and audio file helped in formulating thoughts to fill in detail for the essay questions.

I can't stay logged into this board. Every time I click on any link (thread, category, or anything whatever) I am logged out. Just to post this message I had to log in 7 or 8 times to get here. What is wrong? I tried accessing from work today and was having the same problem. Is it just me?
I am planning to take a CLEP tomorrow and I can't get to the exam specific page to make sure I've covered everything important!
Thanks,
Bee

I know that there has not been alot written about this test. I don't think I can add too much, other than this....I prepared by getting to the point where I was answering 99% of the IC flashcards correctly. I knew the cards back and forth and the concepts behind them.
The TECEP test was written format, and unfortunately one of those tests where vague questions and answers rule the day. Many times, there were two answers that were quite similar, but only one was correct. I might have passed with flying colors and I may have tanked.
I don't think that the IC flashcards could have been written any better. I reviewed the recommended textbook. The flashcards follow the book. I don't think I could have been better prepared. I just think that the TECEP methodology for this particular test was difficult. It felt like someone was deliberately messing with you at times.
If I failed this test, then I will definately take the CSU course. For those who have not come to this fork in the road, I'd strongly suggest looking into the CSU course based on other posters experiences. Timewise, I sent my $450 for the TECEP test 10/10/07, (you need to send money 4 weeks before you take it) I took it 11/19/07 and will probably not get my grade until the beginning of December.
The wording made this test difficult. I very well may have passed...but who knows. There were two very similar answers to most questions.
I take the Business Policy TECEP tomorrow. I'll let you know on that as well.

| Do Excelsior students qualify to buy student software? |

I'm a new Excelsior enrollee. I'm afraid to walk into a local college bookstore and try to buy software with an ID that doesn't even have my name or ID number, let alone a picture, on it. I also note that legitimate online stores require either online validation (which Excelsior apparently doesn't do) or mailing in a copy of a student ID -- which, again, doesn't have anything on it that identifies me. The Excelsior online store doesn't sell software.
Has anyone successfully purchased student versions of software with an Excelsior ID?

Is there anyone on IC who is currently pursuing their Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or has received their Bachelors Degree from Thomas Edison State College? If so I need help developing a plan of action for getting my degree in the least amount of time possible. I will be basically starting from ground zero and plan on incorporating CLEP Tests along with FEMA college credits to obtain the basic General Education Requirements. I basically wanted some feedback from people who have actually "Tested Out" the vast majority of their credits at TESC and who can put me maybe on a similar path to do the same. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.
From a loyal degree seeker...
Sincerely,
Marshall
