Needing everyone's opinion:

Can you pass CLEP College Mathematics with InstantCert alone?

  How are CLEP scores computed?
Posted by: demita82 - 12-23-2013, 11:38 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Hello,

By any chance does anyone know how the CLEP exam scores are computed? I mean, are there a certain amount of questions you have to get right in order to receive a passing score? If so, how many would I have to get correct out of the 100 questions given on my Intro to Sociology?

  COSC / Transcript Question
Posted by: J_T - 12-23-2013, 10:45 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (9)

For those who attended COSC (or are enrolled now).. do you know if there is somewhere on the ACORN portal where you can see the transcripts/courses/grades you sent in? I'm asking because it's been 2 weeks since I had SL and Penn Foster send the transcripts over to them... and I haven't received word from COSC yet.

They sent me a username/password to access ACORN.. so I was wondering if it would show there when they receive them.

Thanks.

  Is this enough

Purchased the Instantcert subscription and have been studying for the Sociology CLEP. The website claims a 97% pass rate for those getting 80% of the flashcard blanks. I'm not trying to get the highest score, just pass. As I'm getting closer to finishing studying here, I have looked at a Peterson exam. The first 8 questions or so I aced 7. Then the questions became a little more difficult. Yet I've heard the Peterson's may be harder than the actual exam. The practice questions on the CLEP site I knew 7 out of 8. My question, can someone reinforce that just studying with the IC method I should be fine hitting a passing score? (Should I not be concerned about practice exams and what material they may contain?) I don't want to overdo it.

  CLEP Transferring Question
Posted by: kmsou - 12-22-2013, 04:44 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Since it's the holidays, I won't be able to ask the college until after January 2nd, but I'm sure someone on here has dealt with this.

I intend to transfer to a 4-year school from my 2-year school, and plan on CLEPing about 53 credits that I know the 4-year will accept. I plan on taking about 20 credits or more at the 2-year school to get my GPA up and be able to go straight into my degree program. The 4-year school only accepts 60 credits from a 2-year school, and 92 from a 4-year. Do you think that the CLEPs will count along with the 60 transferable credits, or will it only count 20 2-year credits and add the 53 CLEP credits to my 4-year transcript?

Or should I just aim for 60 credits in total, then CLEP out more when I get to the 4-year? I only need about 42 credits at the 4-year for my program, so I want to earn extra elective credits through CLEP.

Thanks for any information. I'm contacting the school as soon a I can.

Info Appreciated - Anyone Taken Abnormal Psychology ECE Recently?
Posted by: SuZQ2 - 12-22-2013, 01:33 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Hi All,

I'm having a serious bit of confusion concerning Excelsior's Abnormal Psych exam. The content guide states it's using the DSM-IV-TR - then states its using DSM-5 classifications. The recommended text (Abnormal Psych - Kring 12th edition) transitions from the DSM-IV-TR to the new DSM-5, the practice tests had questions going back to the ancient DSM-III with nothing regarding DSM-5.:willynilly:

I used the Kring text and its online resources as my main study guide, and despite its numerous problems managed an 82 and 83 on both Excelsior practice exams.

I've signed up to take the actual test in early January, so have a few weeks to review/study relevant material. If there's anyone out there who has taken this exam recently... which version of the DSM actually shows up on the test?

Thanks so much!

Thinking of getting a second TESC BA degree...
Posted by: Getiton1 - 12-22-2013, 12:11 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (22)

Hi All,

Okay, so in case anyone didn't know I am an RN that is started my InstantCert/CLEP journey with TESC just about a year ago. The plan was to bang out a ton of CLEP's,apply and get into TESC's Bachelors of Science in Nursing and take things from there. I did all that, and I am just shy of getting my BSN by 2 TESC courses and the dreaded math course. I didn't get my Math done in time to register for January Semester, which means I can't take my next class till April 2014. SO, just for kicks, I decided to plug in a BA degree in Humanities option at the TESC Student Services website. I love all the arts and if I wasn't a nurse, I would like have gone into interior decorating. This is what came up:

Have you ever analyzed your likes received and likes given?
Posted by: sanantone - 12-21-2013, 08:09 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (18)

I guess because I am a social scientist and bored, I decided to look at my likes received and given to see if there were any patterns or cliquish behavior. My likes given are very mixed, so I am proud of myself for not displaying cliquish behavior or holding grudges forever. My likes received are pretty mixed, but I do have dozens of them from a few of the most active and longtime members. One person in particular stands out as having given me the most likes. Either he just really likes my posts or he's just overall generous with likes. I have noticed for awhile that one very active member hasn't liked my posts even when he's expressed strong agreement with or interest in them. I verified this by looking at my likes received. I have given him two likes in the past, but stopped when I noticed this pattern. I must have said something to him early on when he first joined this forum or given off a tone he didn't like, and he has harbored this grudge against me ever since. It doesn't bother me; I just thought it was interesting. He's overall very stingy with giving likes anyway. He should know who he is; and, now, he should notice that I notice. Confusedmilelol:

  It's Finally Done!
Posted by: corpsole2 - 12-21-2013, 04:33 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Guys, I've waited a long time for this post, so I'm going to savor it.

I got the last score back from my TESC capstone, and I got an A on the course. It preserves my final graduation GPA of 4.0!

But the most important news is: I'm done! After years and years of scheming, dreaming, and talking about it, I now have the credits for the Bachelor of Arts degree. I am so proud of myself I could burst.

Thanks to all here who have been there in the dark days. I remember very recently we had quite a few with me as I wasn't sure I'd pass the DSST tests, and when I was almost certain I'd fail the capstone. But, with your help and that of Providence I'm through the looking glass, and Wonderland is great!

I started the year with 54 credits, and a vague idea that I wanted to finish the B.A. by year's end. But February turned into March, and the months kept creeping up, the goal seemed less and less doable. But even as I was taking the course War and American Society at a leisurely pace, I was furiously churning through FEMA and Straighterline courses to get as many done as I could. So, by the time I was awarded my Associate's degree in September, I had nearly 105 credits done. The rest I have done since August. So the completion of all my degree requirements is a big Christmas present to myself. :-)

I am thankful to only have $6000 in student loans, as it won't be much of a financial burden on me. I am thankful that my degree only cost me $11,000.

I am grateful for the skills and the confidence earning this degree has instilled in me. It showed me how I could make a long term plan, create a viable strategy to fulfill that plan, and not give up until it is completed.

Nothing's definite until I get the graduation letter, but I am very certain that champagne is in order. :-)

So thanks again, and Merry Christmas. I'll be around.
