Transfer credits came in as general electives
Posted by: achraf15 - 06-11-2024, 01:59 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello everyone,

I am scheduled to start in the summer 2 session at UMPI for BA Accounting. I received my transfer credit report today, and all my 54 credits from a Japanese university came in as general electives.

I sent an email to umpi-transfercredit@maine.edu to ask if any of these credits could be used to fulfill GEC requirements.
I was hoping at least classes like Physics I and II, Biology I and II, Chinese I and II, Linear Algebra I and II could be used to fulfill some requirements but I got nothing.

I am waiting to hear back from them, what are my chances they would actually change their evaluation? Should I just give up and do the Sophia classes that cover them. I paid for 1 month sophia subscription and currently working to knock out as many classes as I can.

  Microsoft Badges Coming Soon!
Posted by: csmith11 - 06-11-2024, 12:42 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (1)

I took the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Professional Certificate course because a local College said that they accepted it for credit. When I completed the course I could not find a credly badge for it so that I could get it on a transcript and transferred in so I emailed Support and apparently the 2 Microsoft Badges are coming soon.

Screenshots Attached.

Planning Next Steps - UoP to TESU?
Posted by: Nukeme3 - 06-11-2024, 09:43 AM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (16)

Greetings everyone! Big Grin  I'm happy to have stumbled on this little corner of the inter-webs.

I'm soon to be completing a BSCS from UoP (expected in November) and planning for possible next steps. I came across a post on the UoPeople Reddit about TESU which led me here. So now I'm looking for a little guidance on where I should roll my credits into. I'll give a little detail about my position and goals..

Prior credits - I have 25(ish) RA credits from some local universities roughly 10 years ago mostly Math, English, and Science courses.

UoP BSCS - All required courses are complete and I'm now finishing electives. I have 5 courses to go, taking 3 courses per term.

Goal - I would like a RA degree in Computer Science or similar. My hope is the UoP courses transfer 1-to-1 and the RA credits can satisfy required GenEd/Electives along with the RA requirements. I would like the option to transfer into an MBA or to have the credentials accepted in Germany's Anabin certification equivalency evaluation system. I'm already a working professional, so the degree is really just a checkbox. But I would like the opportunity to advance my studies if I choose to.

I am aware UoP is under evaluation for RA, but having been a teacher and involved in a Vocational School accreditation process I'm not holding my breath on this one

I'm thinking a transfer to TESU BA CS or Excelsior BS IT may be the best options. I could pick up any gaps with the resources from Sophia/Saylor/Study.com or CLEPs. Any other recommendations?

A few things that I want to ask:

1) Should I wait to complete the BSCS before transferring to TESU/Escelsior or would there be any advantage to transfer before completion?

2) Does anyone have prior experience with transferring the UoP BSCS into these or other degrees? Is there possibly a degree transfer path that I missed that would be a smoother transition?

3) Credential equivalency review in Germany - Anyone have experience with getting a transferred degree accepted in Germany from TESU/Excelsior?

I am currently taking this class but the material of this course is not helpful in my opinion. Does anyone know if i can drop this class and take it over at Sophia?

Logic of the following (undergraduate to graduate credits )
Posted by: ecdw94 - 06-10-2024, 02:52 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (6)

At here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Un...esque_Isle

It says, you can take 3 undergraduate classes in BA at UMPI towards your MAOL.  That way, you do not need to take them at MAOL.

What is the logic? Take the 3 courses at BA UMPI or take them at MAOL UMPI. You have to take them regardless.....

Denied Financial Aid Because of 182 Credits.
Posted by: Adam54321 - 06-10-2024, 11:16 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (30)

I am being denied Financial Aid because I have transferred to UMPI 182 credits. Only 4 are from RA schools. Does anyone know what I can do to receive financial aid? UMPI sent an appeal form. The form doesn't address my situation. Any advice? Other than the 4 RA, all the rest are ACE courses.

  Sophia Python for TESU CIS
Posted by: homeschoolmom1 - 06-10-2024, 09:48 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (1)

Do you guys think that the Sophia Python course will fulfill the Programming requirement for the TESU BS-CIS? (NOT the BACS degree. I know it works for that one)

  Finishing BA Psych degree plan
Posted by: bonjourcat - 06-09-2024, 09:52 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (21)

Hello! A little over two months ago I posted this thread asking for info on the best path to get to an LMSW. I got a lot of great advice and finally started working on my degree plan towards a BA in psychology with a human services minor. I'm confused about the general education requirements and choosing electives. It says on UMPI's website: "Select general electives to bring total earned hours to 120."

Here's the link to my degree plan. I've looked at a few other degree plans which has helped a lot. I don't know if I'm just way over-thinking it but this is what's confusing me: "Fulfilling the GEC: To complete the GEC, select at least one course for each objective. Several courses meet more than one objective, but a minimum of 40 distinct hours in the GEC is required."

I'm pretty sure I chose the correct classes to fufill the GLO requirement so now do I just choose classes to fulfill the remainder of the general elective requirement to get me to 120 credits?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Also posting this from my original thread for more info!

Hi everyone,

My name is Raquel and I need help with the classes I should take at Sophia/Study/CLEP before I enroll at UMPI and the classes I should take at UMPI. I would love to get some help and put a Degree Plan together so I can follow. I haven't taken any classes at Sophia/Study/CLEP yet.

Location: California, United States.
Age: 29
Desired degree: Bachelor of Liberal Studies-management minor at UMPI or UMPI BABA M&L (open for ideas). I got laid off recently, but I was working in Trust and Safety, which I like. In the future, I would love to be more involved in Policy implementation.
Budget: I have a max of $9K saved up.  I'd like to go the cheapest route possible as I got laid off but will consider spending more for easy and fast.
Commitments: I am ready to go full-time on it and finish as quickly as possible. I am going to take advantage of my unemployment time. I just have to worry about my dog at the moment.
Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed now that I am unemployed. However, when I get another role I will be available to study during the evening on weekdays and full-time on the weekend
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within a year.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I will only have FAFSA to help me out.
