CLEP Information Systems & Computer Applications
#1
Hello everyone,
It seems that I was only awarded 3 credits for Amer. Lit. by my school so I need to take another clep.
Is the CLEP Information systems exam mostly general knowledge questions for people that have been using I.S. for a long time? Can I pass it without studying?
Also can I pass Analysing and Interpreting Literature without studying too?
Is it entirely comprehension questions about old poems and essays?
Please reply.

I can't vouch for for the first one you mentioned, but I do know you can pass Analyzing/Lit without studying. If you are good at reading comprehension, you will do fine. I am not very good at reading and understanding stuff. I need to read things over and over again. Therefore this test for me was very hard and I used every bit of time. I still passed with a B. The only thing I wish I would have known were some of the literary terms. That would have given me my "A". I say take it as soon as you can! Hope this helps.

Hi rackwin,

For the CLEP Info Sys & Computer Applications exam, I would read through the Instantcert section just to double check that you understand all the concepts presented. If you already know enough to pass the exam, you won't have any problem with the IC material. But you might pick up a few terms or concepts that you haven't come across before. If it means you can pick up a few extra points on the exam, it's worth investing an hour or so of your time to read through IC. Right?

For the CLEP A&I Lit exam, I would spend a little bit of time going over some basic literary terminology. That's really all you can do to "study" for this exam. Knowing the literary terminology will likely help you answer between 2-10 questions on the exam (depending on the version you get). So it is definitely worth the effort.

Here is a web site which lists some of the various Literary Terms:

http://www.tnellen.com/cybereng/lit_terms/terms/
(just make sure you know terms such as: allegory, allusion, blank verse, didactic, elegy, hyperbole, satire, simile, soliloquy, stanza, synecdoche, tragedy, etc.)

Best of luck,
Snazzlefrag

You can pass Analyzing and Interpreting Literature without studying if you are like literature and are well-read (see the threads with that title for more info on it). Snazzle's advice is perfect above.

I didn't know much at all about computers. I first took the DSST Management Information Systems (which was hard, but I passed) and then I took the CLEP Info Sys and Comp App (ISCA) which I also passed, but not by a wide margin. To study for ISCA, I used only instacert and studied a week. I thought it was a fairly hard exam, but then again I am a blonde that is no geek. Big Grin

I found the Information System and Computer Application exam simplier due to the type of questions. They were pretty straight forward. The A & I exam demands the ability to read fast and pick the best answer.

If I were you I would run through Info Syst IC questions and take the exam.
