UMPI YourPace Computer Science
#91
I'm unsure if this 2021 report was posted in the thread at any point after the initial 2020 PDF provided in the first post: https://www.maine.edu/unified-accreditat...ible-1.pdf

It concludes with this:

"Increasing need for more YourPace programs. UMPI plans in August 2021 to submit a Substantive Change request to allow Criminal Justice and English: Professional Communication to deliver its programming in the CBE modality. It plans to submit a subsequent request in August 2022 to deliver Cybersecurity and Psychology, with Computer Science and Health Administration scheduled for proposals in 2023."

The CJ and EPCJ programs were added to YourPace since publication. I can't find any 2022 report. Are there progress updates on Cybersecurity, Psychology, Computer Science, and/or Health Administration?

UMPI has not added any new degrees to YourPace in over a year....closer to 2 years now. Like I said previously, I do not believe that you will see any new degrees until the move to Brightspace is completed. The courses needed for the degrees listed above aren't available from Strut so they would need to be developed in house. UMPI's on campus CS program is fairly new - like max 2 years ago new. They have had only 1 professor on campus plus a handful of adjuncts who teach tech courses in the business department. Above states these were proposals for 2023. It's only March.

I feel like UMPI is confused about YourPace and is not entirely sure where to go next. They had a lot of momentum, but, they're mostly brick and mortar professors trying to create something online for the online world. Most of their classes where whitelabeled they bought.

UMPI is transitioning to brightspace on 08/28/23. So I expect we'll hear more news in the coming months or next year about other degrees.

We already know there will be a new BA in psychology after the move to Brightspace is complete. The degree begins in October.

Being funded by 5‐year U.S. Department of Education Title III grant!!!  These courses were created in 2019 and are set to be released in late 2021! The degree is ging to be designed with NECHE standards and will be RA accredited.

PROJECTED to be released in 2023.

The University of Maine of Presque Isle (UMPI) is seeking permission to offer a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (COS, B.S.). As described in the included proposal, the proposed Computer Science program will not only serve the demand for computer science professionals but also provide support for the many computer applications in business, healthcare, mathematics, data analytics, education, sciences, and new and social media. UMPI successfully received a 5-year federal Department of Education grant to fund the development of a Computer Science, Bachelor in Science program with concentrations in Software Development and Information & Data Management. The major will be offered both in a live modality and UMPI’s competency-based YourPace programming.

The proposal was reviewed at all appropriate faculty and administrative levels at UMPI was reviewed and subsequently recommended by the Chief Academic Officers Council. Dr. Robert Placido, Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs recommended the program to the Chancellor. Chancellor Malloy signed his approval of the program on April 21, 2020.

they're expecting about 5 people a year to take it... I don't think they've heard of DegreeForum yet. I bet we'd flood them!

They're going to be offering TWO Bachelor Computer Science degrees to YOUR PACE:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Software Development Concentration
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Information and Data Management Concentration

Also coming soon to other Maine schools with an online concentration (these are planned for 5+ years out FYI so don't wait for these!)
Bachelor of Science in Health Administration Community Health Concentration
Bachelor of Science in Health Administration Health Informatics Concentration
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geographic Information Systems Community Applications Concentration
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geographic Information Systems Spatial Data Science Concentration

Note there are strong hints, that if this is a success, that Health Informatics will be added, and if that is a success, then they'll look into adding a medical degree next, most likely nursing.

Oh my Goddess !!! This is exciting

Please don't get excited. UMPI has not publicly stated that these degrees are happening. Jessica has been asked numerous times over the years and she has always said there are no plans. Things change. Could these degrees happen in the future? Sure. Could be next year. Could be 5 years from now. Things are very slow to move at UMPI. Remember this is from back in April 2020. Then Covid dragged on and completely changed the world.

What's not mentioned here is the addition of a BA in Psychology which is beginning on YourPace in October.

Since this was posted there were 2 new BABA's with Marketing Concentration and Supply Chain Management Concentration. These were also not included in the post above.

Oh, I see.

Do you know where I can find the list of all the courses (courses not degrees) available in the yourpace program at UMPI?

I looked on their website but I couldn't find the catalog.
Reply
There isn't really a catalog of YourPace courses. They offer what is required for the YourPace degrees and nothing extra.

Someone did receive a PDF over the summer of the course offerings. I haven't seen a fall one anywhere yet. It's not something UMPI publishes.
