So I am going to wait to apply because I just started Sophia. But the enrollment people keep calling me haha. I'm aiming for the March session. I'm following a degree plan from the wiki and I researched the options to choose what I'm doing, I have it all written out. My question is, will my community college credits in Intro to Mass Media and Acting count towards anything, or are they just electives? I have a feeling acting will be an elective, but I'm wondering if Mass Media could count for UMPI 1C, 2D, or 2E. I don't want to take a Sophia class duplicate is why I'm asking. I could apply to find out, but I plan on taking 40+ hours on Sophia.

The transfer database shows a mass media survey (Mass Comm: Media & Culture, from Northern Maine Community College) listed as 1C at UMPI, and an acting intro (Fundamentals of Acting, from University of Maine [Orono flagship]) listed as 2D at UMPI.

Thank you so much, that's so helpful!! Unfortunately, the first class I started is for 2D. What a coincidence. Is it fairly safe then to not take Sophia courses for those two requirements? I of course want the classes I already finished to count.

I'd finish it quickly if you can, but switch it out for something else if you're getting bogged down. Don't overthink it either way.

Well I've only done a third of unit 1, haven't even done a milestone yet. So it's fine to switch classes, I think if I've already filled the requirement I should save time and move on. It's pretty likely they will fill those requirements based off the transfer database, right? Thanks for all your help!

I'm trying to search in the database but I honestly can't figure it out, it's asking for a subject and course number. Maybe I need to search for an explanation of how to do it myself. But I also have College and Life Strategies (3hrs), College Orientation (1hr), First Aid (2hrs) and Music Theatre Performance 1 and 2 (4hrs total) from my last school and I'm wondering if they'll count for anything.

Every course from every college is not in the transfer database. The only courses in the transfer database are courses previously transferred in by students. That's how classes get added to the transfer database.

I'm mainly hoping to find out if anyone has transferred something like the College and Life Strategies, but I don't see how it would count as any Gen Ed. So I'll just plan on all of those being electives.

UMPI doesn't have anything called Gen Ed. It's the GEC. They also have general electives. I'm clarifying so other new folks in the future aren't confused as there have been people in the past who used GEC and general electives interchangeably and they're not. They're 2 different things which has confused some folks.

Unpopular opinion: GEC is Gen Ed and I'm tired of UMPI pretending they're special with their wording.
Sure, it's a bit different from how TESU or Excelsior do Gen Eds, but it's nearly identical to COSC. GEC are Gen Ed classes and UMPI is being a bit precious with their wording.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210
