UMPI Your Pace New General Education Requirements Fall 2026 (New Degree Plan)

Fall I or Fall II students who are matriculated by August 18th will have the option to fall under the old GEC requirements." Since the GEC decision was just finalized on June 1, 2026, if you are matriculating by August 18th and wish to use the old GEC requirements, be sure to communicate that choice to your enrollment specialist or success coach.

Here are a few things I noticed about the new General Education requirements:

• They are simpler to figure out, and it looks like one course will no longer fulfill multiple GLO requirements.
  
  
• Foreign language is now optional.
  
  
• Some General Education requirements can be fulfilled by courses that are already part of certain degrees, such as the BBA.
  

I updated the Wiki that mainly uses Sophia courses to map out the requirements, since that is what most people have been using. You could also create a plan using Study.com courses.

It will be interesting to see if the courses from Sophia and Study are accepted to fulfill the changes to the GEC. Feels like they simplified the GEC as it felt kind of complex before. The descriptions of some of the LOs was a word salad.....like just say you want a science with a lab.

Hopefully it will make things easier for knowing direct transfers? Can't say I've been a big fan of UMPI's recent activities pertaining to alt credits, but at least its not like COSC (please don't end up like COSC, UMPI)

Before, if a course transferred with a course number that fulfilled one of the GLO requirements, we wouldn't expect that course number to change. So Statistics (MAT 201), for example, should be a pretty safe assumption for transfer, as should any course that matches the course numbers exactly.  

GLO 2, 3C, 4, 8 are the ones at risk of nothing transferring.  I did make some notes in the Wiki that mapping is tentative.

At some point, people will start reporting what transferred into the new catalog, and we should begin seeing updates to the UMPI database for the new GLO requirements.

Now that Study.com has an unlimited subscription, I'll probably do a bunch of courses over the course of a month or two at some point. Doing a UMPI degree would almost be like continuing education for me. I'd probably want the BBA in Marketing with three minors: Psychology, Political Science, and Philosophy.

The UMPI database has been updated to the new GLO numbers.  Everything transferred as expected with Visual Communications coming as ART 107 fulfilling GLO 7.

Straighterline has options for GLO 2 and 3C. There's nothing yet for GLO 4 or 8, although GLO 8 is part of the BBA major. Maybe Sophia's Biology and Chemistry courses won't work anymore.  We'll see if anyone reports back what transferred for them.  Over 1000 students in YourPace, plenty of guinea pigs.
