I'm not looking for a resource for credit or even a full class, rather I'm looking for maybe a selection of videos /etc. on the very introductory basics. My 8th grader is a little bit curious, so if anyone has a good suggestion, I'd love to hear! Thanks.

I can't credit the source because I bookmarked the website, not the thread, but someone here on the forum found this website that is a GREAT "all you want to know" how-to. I don't think it's credit-worthy, but you could learn a ton through it.

Saylor has a course that introduces some of the fundamentals of accounting, PRDV201 Accounting Principles. There are some videos, some reading.

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping to give him a little to look at over the next week or two and then ask him if he'd like to study accounting as a class.

Jennifer,
You may also want to search bookkeeping which provides many of the foundations needed for Accounting. My old laptop died so I don't have any links I can send you to yet but once I resurrect it and harvest some of the info on it I'll send you a few links. Make sure that you only use American Accounting training when it comes to the Balance Sheet and Income Statement since they are done differently in the rest of the world although we might end up switching to the rest of the worlds standard. The other issue with accounting as a profession is the long long hours that can be required to make decent income. I spent the afternoon working today to catch up for Wednesday afternoons meeting. Here's a link I just remembered I had Accounting Transactions 2- Accounting Cycle - Free Management Video Lecture
this belongs to a series from a 101 style class at college but I found that it is helpful as a focus on the college level foundations
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing
