NYU foreign language exam
#1
I have to fill the following credits:

Interdisciplinary -6 credits.
General education electives 18
Area of study- 12

My advisor said I could do two 16 credit NYU exams to complete area of study and general education. That still leaves me with 2 credits. Could I apply those credits to interdisciplinary and make up the 4 credits with an ACE approved course?

Do you currently speak more than 2 languages? If so, which ones. (I ask because there are a number of exam options for various languages)

Language credit is counted as humanities credit at TESC. Humanities are gen ed and one of your areas of study can be humanities, so it seems like a fit. I don't think we've had anyone here do 2 NYU exams, I am exceptionally interested to know the breakdown of credits they would award- as well as the distribution between upper and lower level. Typically, the first 8 language credits in 1 language are lower level, so with your advisor's suggestion, it seems as if the remaining credit would be upper level.

Before deciding, ask this advisor to email you the TESC course equivalency numbers for a NYU exam. In other words, you need to know for sure that these 12-16 credits will meet the requirements. (they might, this is exciting!)

An equivalency sheet looks like this: http://www.tesc.edu/academics/catalog/CL...rogram.cfm

EDIT
I wanted to add the relevant links so folks finding this thread have access to this info later.

I'm proficient in Hebrew and Yiddish. My advisor said the 2 exams could fill my area of study and general education electives. Here's the email:

General education electives (18) can be completed at 100, 200, 300, or 400 level. Foreign language credit can apply here
Area of study- 12 credits At least 6 of these credits must be at the 300/400 level. Foreign language credit could apply here.

My question was if I could apply the 2 remaining credits to interdisciplinary credits and then take a 4 credit ACE course to fill the 6 credits required there.

Also TAL offers foreign language exams, but a bit more expensive. Does anyone know if it is easier than NYU?

Before you can answer your question, your advisor needs to give you a better answer. Of course FL credit applies to those areas, but they are not telling you the distribution between upper and lower level, which 100% determines the answer to allll the questions that follow. You need them to tell you the equivalencies.
