Hi,
I just thought I would let anyone who is interested know about a Programming Fundementals course I took this past spring semester. The course was with Johnson County Community College and was offered as an online course. I would highly encourage anyone who has to take a basic programming course or would just like to take a course like this, to do so. There were no proctored exams; all assignments were online. It covered 2 programming languages - Alice and Greenfoot (Java). You do have to download the software (which is free) and a couple short books. That is all of the course material required. These were more game-oriented languages, allowing you to focus more on the concepts than trying to figure out the other details that most languages apply.
The coursework included:
6 Alice Tutorials
9 Projects (6 Alice and 3 Greenfoot)
3 or 4 Chapter Quizzes
and 2 "final" exams for Alice and Greenfoot
It may sound like a lot, but in reality, it wasn't that bad. You got at least 2 chances to take a quiz/exam, if not more. There is an online discussion board that you can use, but nothing is mandatory there. In all, I came out with a pretty good grade, learned a lot, and actually had fun along the way.
Just thought I'd share it with ya'll.
