best option for associates
#1
Hello all, I am needing to earn a associates degree in the near future in order to get a promotion at work. I know there are alot of knowledgeable people here that can guide me in the right direction. Degree major is not an issue. Based on this information what would be my fastest/cheapest option? i currently have completed these courses from sophia.

art history 1
college algebra
conflict resolution
environmental science
introduction to sociology
macroeconomics
u.s. history 2
visual communications
I am also in the process of completing public speaking, and human biology. I am a military veteran, and on my JST it is listed i have 15 credits for my military training. Would pierpont be a good option or something else? Thank you

Pierpont would be the fastest/cheapest option. I know you said that major isn't an issue, but it's easy to get areas of emphasis using Sophia + Google IT Professional certificate for Information Systems or just Sophia for Business.

For Pierpont's requirements, you will have completed Communications once you finish Public Speaking. You're already done with math/science. You're done with social sciences. You still need Introduction to Information Technology for the computer literacy requirement. Also, you need at least one graded RA credit. Your JST MIGHT count for this, but I can't guarantee that it would. Better to be safe and get a credit from a known source - at least if speed is an issue. This self-paced course starts on the 11th: https://ea.asu.edu/courses/technical-sup...s-cis-194/ By the time you get signed up and verified, the course should be available. While there is a free Clackamas credit, I think you'd have to wait until next semester to take that one.

Once you have the requirements nailed down, use https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List to find courses that have no touchstones (assignments) to complete them more quickly. To round out your credits to 60, I would suggest taking 2 of Sophia's 1-credit classes.

Do you have the GI Bill and/or are you wanting to continue on later to a Bachelor's degree? If so, there are some courses that you should definitely be taking from Sophia, such as Greek Philosophers + Ethics. Either way, do not take either English Comp. They'll just slow you down and there are better options if you continue on to another school.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

You're welcome! Good luck with your quest to get an Associate! Let us know how it goes and/or if you have any further questions. Smile

By the way, if something goes sideways with Public Speaking (it's one of Sophia's more difficult courses due to possible grading issues), Communication at Work should be an easier way to meet Pierpont's requirements.

The Pierpont BOG degree requires English Comp I ("COMMUNICATIONS:  ENGL 1104 AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: ENGL 1108, 1109; COMM 2200, 2201, 2202" - ENG1104 is Written English 1).

Your JST will list ACE credit - so that won't count for RA credits (nor is it graded).

The easiest way to get English Comp I credit is the CLEP (either College Comp Modular which is all multiple choice, or College Comp w/Essay, which is Modular + 2 essays for 6cr - it normally counts for both English Comp I & II).  You could also take Study.com or Sophia courses, but those will be a lot more work.  The easiest may be SDC's ENGL 104: College Composition I.

The BOG degree page does indeed say that you need ENGL1104, but I'm pretty sure that at least a couple of people have gotten a Pierpont degree without taking either English Comp course from Sophia (or anywhere else).

Didn't someone say that they took the Foundations of Eng Comp from Sophia and it counted along with a communications course ?

I think so, yes. That's a pretty easy course, much easier than Eng Comp I/II at Sophia.

You're a vet? Do you have an amount left over from your GI Bill? I suggest completing the Pierpont BOG AAS, if you want to get a Bachelors degree, you may want to use the GI Bill to pay for it... There's no rush, get the Associates done and you can think about that later... I suggest the ASU $25 course since you can sign up and get that started soon... good luck, have fun!
