I just saw they added a Yourpace psychology degree with tons of free electives. When I looked at the required courses I saw this course.
PSY 496 - Practicum 1
3 credits
Supervised field experience in a social service or other setting where psychology background and skills are especially useful. Course may be repeated for a total not to exceed six credits
Prerequisite(s): Psychology major or minor with junior or senior standing and consent of instructor
How would this work online in the Yourpace format. Does anyone got more info on this?

I don't know for certain, but I suspect that students are supposed to do something like volunteer at a local homeless shelter or something along those lines. It probably works like an internship where your supervisor has to acknowledge that you've done the work. You then have to write a paper about your experience (possibly). Right now, YourPace staff are the only ones who can confirm how this will work.

No one knows as this program is not live yet. No one has completed this course. This program doesn't begin until October so we won't know anything for awhile.
The Criminal Justice program has a similar course. And it is up to the student to find their work experience. It required something like 100 hours (maybe more).

If it's anything like CRJ 496, which is the field work final class of a Criminal Justice degree, they will do their best to help you get placed somewhere in your area, but if not offer an online option. With CJ if they can't place you, they hook you up with an online social justice group you can do your hours via zoom etc with. It could be similar for Psych as well.

UMPI: BA Criminal Justice
Pierpont: AAS BOG w/ Emphasis in Information Systems
Sophia: 24 Courses - The CSM Course - ASU: CIS 194 Business Technology Fundamentals

There have been students on here who were told they had to find their own placement for CRJ496 and that UMPI did not offer any help. They weren't offered an online option. I wonder if this is new?

The course description for the criminal justice experience course currently reads (note that the credit hours for the criminal justice experience is 6 while psychology is 3 repeatable twice):
Quote:CRJ 496: Field Experience in Criminal Justice
Duration: 8 weeks
Credit Hours: 6
Supervised field experience in a criminal justice or social service agency. CRJ 496 is the capstone course in the degree in which students work within a criminal or social justice agency and connect their experiences with our program learning outcomes. Professor Leduc meets (via zoom) with students in the session before they are ready to take this course to plan out where the student will complete their 100 hours. It could be at their current job, or a volunteer/intern experience with a local or online agency. The student is responsible for finding placement, but Professor Leduc is available to help.

I see, it's merely an elective. This wasn't clear from the wiki or the UMPI website. Thank you for that information, much appreciated.

I'm doing a million things at the same time, which includes playing video games online.
To explain better, watch this video from Dr. William Jenkins at UMPI
https://video.maine.edu/media/Answering+...1_955arv6a
Basically, he is saying if you take animal behavior and cognitive psychology at UMPI, then you don't have to take the practicum.
I updated the Wiki so people understand this better. I hope people weren't avoiding this major just because of the practicum.
