Looking for a recent degree plan for BLS
#1
I want to help my cousin come up with a degree plan for UMPI transferring in the full 90 credits as cheaply as possible with a hope that she can do the UMPI courses in the summer when she has more free time.  I am having a little trouble sorting out what is the most recent info.  Does anyone already have a degree plan set up that I can use as a starting point?  She would be starting from zero.

That might be helpful. I tried to find a source with all the courses needed for the specific degree but I don’t seem to be able to find one anymore. I see a few breakdowns for majors and minors. I can probably find what is equivalent, but not a list that says here are all the specific courses you need for the BLS Management minor. I know I saw that before. I will see if i can construct something.

Are they generally good with CLEP? She might start there since they are free.

Would be a great idea to add CLEP transfer equivalents to the wiki.

From the UMPI website: https://www.umpi.edu/wp-content/uploads/...credit.pdf

If you don't trust the link, you can find it by going to UMPI's page at "Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)" and selecting "CLEP EXAMS ACCEPTED FOR CBE CREDIT."

I don't know if the minimum scores on the Collegeboard website is current: https://clep.collegeboard.org/college-cr...esque-isle

I am wondering if anyone has tried them.  There are a lot that seem like they might work.  I have a little trouble understanding the Gen Ed part since I have never done that type of degree myself.

I have started a Google sheet trying to map it out.  If anyone thinks they can help make sure it is maximizing with the lowest cost for transfer credits, please let me know and I will send you the link.  Since i never went to UMPI, I could be missing stuff.

Thank you.  This is helpful. Although I am a little fuzzy on how they fit in the Gen Ed section.  I am going to try to plug them in where I think they go now.

I have combed through this and I find the gen ed stuff VERY confusing because of the A,B,C,D,E stuff.  I don’t know if that means each one is a separate course of your one course is the equivalent of those letters.  I need it laid out is a traditional course for course style.  Or if it’s like 6 credits of English, 3 credits of Math, etc.

It might be easier if you start from the 24-25 Course Catalog (http://catalog.umpi.edu/content.php?cato...curriculum). Select General Education Curriculum. You will see this: "To complete the GEC, select at least one course for each objective. Several courses meet more than one objective, but a minimum of 40 distinct hours in the GEC is required."

There are 5 categories (General Education Learning Outcomes) with each category having multiple learning objectives. We shorten the category to a number and the learning objective to a letter. For example, if you look at the course catalog, you will see that the first category is "1. Effective Written & Oral Communication." We shorten "1. Effective Written & Oral Communication Learning Objective A" to just "1A."

To satisfy 1A, you need to complete ENG 100 or ENG 101.

Courses can meet more than one objective. For example ENG 101 satisfies both 1A and 1D:
Learning Objective A

Students will be able to write with a clear purpose, point of view, and awareness of audience.
Learning Objectives D

Students will use written and oral communication as a means to engage in critical inquiry by exploring ideas, challenging assumptions, and reflecting on composing processes. So from there, you can go to the General Education Requirements Roadmap (https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...ts_Roadmap) This makes it easy to see which courses meet what objective and which providers you could take the course from.

For example, let's say you're trying to find '2A' (2. Critical & Creative Thinking Learning Objective A)
Go to (Column 1: 'Learning Objective Required') and locate '2A'. You will find 3 rows.
Under (Column 4: 'Course Names'), you will see the 3 courses that satisfies 2A are: Intro to Ethics, Ancient Greek Philosophers, and Intro Psych: Smarter Decisions.
Under (Column 3: 'Course Provider'), you will see that you could take all three courses at Sophia.com.
Under (Column 2: 'Learning Objective filled'), you will see which learning objectives that course will satisfy. Intro to Ethics and Ancient Greek Philosophers both satisfy Learning Objectives 2A, 2B, 4C, 5D while Intro Psych: Smarter Decisions only satisfies 2A, 2B. Therefore, you would want to take either Intro to Ethics or Ancient Greek Philosophers.

From there, you could go one level further. If you go to Sophia.org Equivalency List (https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List), you can check how many quizzes, tests, and submitted assignments are required. It seems like Intro to Ethics has 4 Milestones (tests) while Ancient Greek Philosophers has 1 milestone and 2 touchstones (written/recorded assignments). I had 1-2 week wait times with touchstones so I would take Intro to Ethics. (I took Sophia courses over an year ago so your grading timeline might be different.)

That's where a spreadsheet comes into play, you plug the general education WIKI link details into that one spreadsheet indicating which classes go where. Once done, you would look at the specific degree plan WIKI, then update the spreadsheet accordingly. You can then customize which classes you want to transfer in with what other providers are available such as Coursera, Sophia.org or Study.com...
