West Virginia Will Pay You to Move There
#1
As a percentage of their population, no state has lost more people than West Virginia in the past 10 years. To combat this problem, West Virginia is paying people $12,000 to move there plus a free year of recreational activities.

Morgantown. Where housing is probably almost twice as high as the rest of the state.

I've been to West Virginia. You'd have to pay me far more than $12K to move there and stay.

I have never been to West Virginia but you'd have to wonder why so many people are leaving.

No work outside of relatively lower-paying service jobs.

Most of the employment in the past was coal mining. It's a VERY rural state. Many of the coal mines are looooong gone. Jobs are tough to come by. Good paying jobs are even harder to find throughout the state. It's sad. Mother Nature did a great job with the natural beauty, but we as a population have been terrible at creating employment opportunities there.

We're in the golden age of telework. Many professionals can do their job anywhere there is a good internet connection. However, internet infrastructure is something that WV struggles with.

Joe Manchin and Shelly Capito are the Senators.  Jim Justice is the Governor.  How's that working out for you, West Virginia?

You have to have people who live there who have those kinds of jobs. They're not abundant in WV at all so it means people from other states have to move there....to a VERY rural conservative state. The housing situation isn't what many people are looking for either especially the type of people who have professional employment which would allow them to work remotely.

This tells you a great deal....It paints a pretty accurate picture of the state as a whole. You can see direct links from education to employment to infrastructure etc why they are in the situation they are in.
