Even though both degree providers are exclusively online, ACBSP accredited, competency based degrees, I would check to see the courses involved in each of their offerings and see which "set of courses" interest you more. An MBA and MSML are different even though they are geared towards the Business field, the subject matter are courses are more Business Admin vs Leadership. If you want to get an MBA, then choose Walden. If you want to have more leadership/management courses under your belt, then WGU.

I’m almost done with the MSML. It’s a great program.

Why did you pick Walden's MBA over WGU's? I've talked with several students that completed both MBA & MSML degrees at WGU. If one completed their MBA at WGU, it's only 5 additional classes to obtain their MSML, because the material overlaps.

People normally pick the MBA over other types of business degrees because of the perception that the MBA is the highest. That's not true, but the perception is strong. In reality, each degree exists for different reasons and can have different career paths and different ceilings based on career path.
The MBA is still a valuable degree, and depending on where you earn it, VERY valuable. But it's important to know that there is an oversaturation of MBAs in the market now and many are turning to other business degree types in order to stand out amongst the crowd. The MSM/MSML is at the top of the list of degrees people are gradually turning to, and more schools are offering it now in response.

I understand the value of the MBA. What I was asking BJCheung is why he selected Walden's MBA degree over WGU's?
Just curious what positions/roles/job titles the MSML degree offers? What role differences are there between MBA vs MSML?
I am choosing the MSML because I do not want to study finance, accounting or economics in an MBA program. I also want the MSML because, why not? It sounds interesting and would allow me to use my soft skills in a future role.

My post was a reply to the course of the thread, not a reply to your other post. But for people not interested in deeper financial matters, the MSM(L) is a good program. There will still be some dealings with money, but it's usually from the standpoint of crafting plans and executing them moreso than crunching numbers and analyzing them.

Thanks for explaining that about the MSML. I started this thread wanting to know the differences between WGU vs Walden. However, I have read the same things you mentioned about there being a glut of MBA's. It's all good.

Ha, I didn't even realize you started the thread. For some reason I rarely check the first pages of threads anymore, I just go to town, lol.

I am taking Walden because of the free term, just the same reason I took the Strayer term. I want to see what/how many credits I can get for the amount of effort/energy and time I can place into it. From the looks of things, I would not be able to complete the entire degree in 1 term, probably not even 2 at this rate, at the fastest would be 3 terms. For me, it's just for learning, the degree isn't really what I am looking for.
Having said that, if you pit this Walden MBA vs the WGU MBA, it should be about the same. I think WGU would have a slight edge as the courses offered are comparable yet different. Overall cost, if you can complete it quickly, WGU would be the way to go, furthermore, WGU is non-profit even though both are exclusively online. If you're not into the MBA, WGU has the MSML option which is great for people not wanting a Business Admin Masters.
