WARNING: Here's to your health exam
#1
I just took, and barely passed the HTYH exam today. I studied from IC and various internet sources to learn about items from the DSST Fact Sheet outline.

I felt that only about 10% of the exam had actual IC questions, and the dsst ouline of topics covered were not exactly the minimum you needed to know about. At one point while taking the exam I actually had to look up to the top of the screen to confirm I was taking the correct exam and not some other health related exam.

Of the 95 questions, I marked 44 as either I simply guessed, or I used best guess. This was the new version of the test with the new scoring system. The test said "Revised 2008" on it. Passing was 400, and I scored a 404. Whew!

I'm telling you this not to scare you, but to tell you that you must know all the material per the dsst outline, PLUS all related and in depth associated material. It almost seemd like the exam was trying to ask obscure and questions to where several answers could apply in an effort to make the test harder,..........rather than trying to test your actual knowledge.
This was my second dsst exam. My first was Personal Finance, which I crushed. This HTYH exam was MUCH more difficult.

Aside from using IC, some exams have very little other study resources so we use what we have.

That being said, I think that with your study your "marked guesses" were actually "educated guesses" rather than just random ones.

Great Job!

One positive about the NEW 2008 EXAM is, of the available answers to choose from, there were no options that said, "Answers A and B" or "None of the above."

This is one aspect that was better than in my Personal Finance exam.

Just came from taking the HTYH test an hour ago. I also took the new version and was told the old version was no longer available as of 8/31/08. I PASSED with a 423 and all I used was the IC flashcards. I had previously taken the Dantes "Drug and Alcohol Abuse" two months ago and this came in handy along with the IC flashcards. Overall I would say master the IC flashcards and be ready to use good common sense and you have a chance. This was the last 3 credits needed to complete my BS degree.

Does anyone know if EC is still grading these vs. pass/fail? What about the other "big 3" schools?

I too went to take the HTYH exam two days ago and while signing in on the exam the person setting me up asked if I wanted the old test or the new and totally took me off guard. I said the old and we couldn't find it. I went ahead and took the new test and passed only with a 415. I will say I guessed at half the questions. Being in health care for years may have given me a small advantage. I was scheduled to take Intro to Computing and the CLEP information Systems the following day but due to the hurricane the testing center was closed. This is probably a sign. Has anyone taken the new Intro to Comp and is there a study guide??????

Is IC becoming a big waste of money or something? i've just spent three hours a day studying psych with IC, and plan on using other resources. I guess using "IC only" is a thing of the past.

You should feel pleased that you were able to use IC only up to this point, however, many of us have always used other resources, and for example I used REA and IC to prepare for Psychology and Sociology. So no it’s not a waste of money for me, in fact it’s been a huge savings because I have other exams to prepare for like CLEP and ECE and from the feedback IC will be a great study source for many of those exams.
Passed CLEP & DSST, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Management, Principles of Supervision, Human Resource Management, Here's To Your Health, Civil War & Reconstruction, Drugs & Alcohol Abuse, Introduction To Psychology, Introduction To Sociology, Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union, Criminal Justice, Into to Law Enforcement, Astronomy, Environment and Humanity, Technical Writing, Foundations of Education, Western Europe Since 1945, DSST Organization Behavior, ECE Ethics: Theory & Practice, Intro to Business, ECE Abnormal Psychology, ECE World Population, ECE Psychology of Adulthood and Aging, Fundamentals of Counseling
