Brightwood Colleges across the nation closed with no notice yesterday. I looked into them for my RN. They wanted $60K.

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun. Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior. And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

this is no small thing. They had over 20,000 students - and the likelihood of transfer is very very low. While it's possible that the Dept of Ed will dismiss their student loans, anyone who paid cash or with a credit card is stuck. Unfortunately, there is never a way to get your time back.

Hopefully, some local schools will accept their credits. That's what happened with ITT Tech. I'm not sure if many of their students knew that COSC and WGU agreed to take their credits.
When the college I used to work for closed, the local community college system decided to take their students. I bet they inherited a headache since half of those students can't read. If they had started at the CC, they would have been in remedial courses.

Virginia College in Biloxi shuts its doors, surprising students
This doesn't surprise me at all. I live in the Biloxi area and I've worked with several Virginia College externs at the medical clinic where I volunteer. The externs that come to us are basically clueless (or worse, thinking they know everything when they really know nothing). I feel sorry for the students who enrolled (and paid) for VC's programs and for any teachers who actually made an effort to produce competent graduates. Most of the externs I've interacted with were not passionate about medicine and strike me as folks who were just pushed through the program.
I hate this for the honest students and instructors who were left hanging. I hope Virginia College plans on refunding tuition for students who weren't able to finish because of this.
