Unsure of which Sophia courses to complete now

- ENGL 1301, English I(3 Credits)
- ENGL 1302, English II(3 Credits)
- HIST 1301, History I(3 Credits)

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
Sophia: 23 Credits
- Developing Effective Teams(1 Credit)
- The Essentials of Managing Conflict(1 Credit)
- Introduction to Psychology(3 Credits)
- Approaches to Studying Religions(3 Credits)
- U.S. History II(3 Credits)
- Spanish I(3 Credits)
- Introduction to Web Development(3 Credits)
- Environmental Science(3 Credits)

Commitments/Comments: toddler, spouse and recently a part time job. My only major obstacle is that I suffer from a few documented disabilities that have made my journey to a degree much more challenging. Public Health is my preferred major, but I will settle for anything that gets me that piece of paper quickly. I attended Walden University for 2 terms but fell into debt with them as I was only able to complete one course and have abandoned the idea of bringing that course with me to the next school.

First off: have you settled that debt with Walden? It might prevent you from graduating from another school. Other schools are going to want to see transcripts from all schools you've previously attended. You might be able to get a Pierpont BOG AAS anyway, but a Bachelor's degree is less likely.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

@The Fun Of It, Welcome to the board, you've snipped some parts of the template and addendum, it's concise, short and sweet, sufficient to get an overall picture of what's happening... My suggestion is two fold, you can apply to TAMUC, UMPI, if you want, you can also take a look at other institutions such as Excelsior, TESU, PUG, etc. You really need to decide what degree/school you want to go for, you can always do an associates from Pierpont and bachelors from another institution...

Basically, complete your Sophia.org and other ACE credit, Apply, get your transcripts from the old institution to transfer into TAMUC/UMPI, wait for evaluation to determine your final courses required at TAMUC/UMPI for the degree. You need to send in the older transcripts as your old institution should be part of National Student Clearing House and institutions would find out you've attended and will be waiting for transcripts. It may bite you in the end when graduation comes for final audit...

Exactly this... Start with the Pierpont BOG AAS, then ladder up. I would recommend TAMUC BAAS Organizational Leadership and if you wanted to go for a Masters such as the MBA, do the HAU MBA $3K. If you are going for the UMPI degree, then ladder that up to the UMPI MAOL (Organizational Leadership), or do a mix/match between the two...

Yeah, leaving a transcript out is generally not possible. There is a national registry that schools report student attendence to. The new school will know where you've attended and insist on seeing all the transcripts. It serves to enforce rules about multiple degrees, and it allows makes students settle their unpaid accounts..

Hi I am so sorry I am getting back to everyone so late! The debt was eventually sent to collections so I'm working with the debt agency, I'm not sure if this will still hold me back. I've looked into Pierpont but I'm having a hard time understanding how to get setup with them. I'll look into it more though, thank you!

Hi, I am so sorry for the late reply! I also did not realize I missed some parts of the template, so I do apologize for that as well. TAMUC and UMPI have caught my interest though TAMUC is much closer to me so I may look deeper into that one. I feel I've messed myself up with Walden along with the time it has taken to get half of an Associate's so much more research is due. Thank you for the welcome as well, it's great to be here!

Luckily, having a missing transcript won't stop you from getting started with alt credit providers. In the case of Pierpont, I don't think it will stop you, either. For a bachelor's degree, you can usually enroll and start courses, just be aware that before graduation, you'll have to produce the transcript.

I'm going to suggest that you get credits from Sophia, but hold off on even thinking about TAMUC or UMPI - a competency-based degree from someone who has had issues in the past is not always the best option.

Was Walden a CBE program? If so, you definitely don't want to do that again until you can prove that you're able to complete MANY more courses in a short amount of time.

A non-CBE program like TESU or EC might be a better plan.

Hello all! This is sort of a part 2 to a thread I'd forgotten I started some time ago. I've come to accept that school is not for me, though I am still very determined to get my associates degree as I am about 46 credits in. I guess my question surrounds Sophia courses that may be a little less difficult to complete. I've attempted to reach Nancy a few times since November, and I want to have everything I need when she is able to call/email me back.

I was hoping for an area of emphasis but the job position I'm after requires I have 60 credits of any kind so anything that gets me to the finish line is perfect. Any suggestions?

  • Developing Effective Teams, Sophia Learning
  • Essentials of Managing Conflict, Sophia Learning

You are getting close to being done.

Figure out how everything transfers, then make a spreadsheet of what courses you need to complete to finish your degree.

IT and Business are the most popular areas of emphasis
