UMPI admissions question
#1
Hi everyone. I applied to UMPI back in April and have been waiting for a response. In fairness, I don't think they got all of my transcripts until 2-3 weeks ago (but they wouldn't have known there were more coming). I emailed admissions for an update and got a response from an enrollment specialist who said they were still processing transcripts, which was fine. The odd thing was that he asked for a good time to call. This was a hard question for me because I'm always busy; I basically eat or take breaks whenever I can, work long hours and have a disabled spouse and kids. I kept asking what the call was regarding and he wouldn't answer. We eventually scheduled a time, I got agreement from my boss to get out of work an hour or so early and booked a meeting room to have the call in so that I wouldn't be out on the street or on a train when he called. No one called.

I emailed again to remind him that he had said someone would call me at that time and told him that if it isn't absolutely necessary, I'd prefer email communication since it's just easier (also better to keep a written record of discussions). It's been a week now and I've gotten no response.

Has this been anyone else's experience? And has it taken this long for everyone else to get their admissions decisions? I'm just wondering if I should just give up and go with another school.

Any input would be great, thanks.

How many credits do you have and are you transferring to UMPI in total? Has the course list been updated from your last couple of posts? I see a course list from 2019 here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ack--33552? Which degree are you looking at, I see previously you were looking into a BSBA or BALS at COSC/TESU.

What term did you indicate you wanted to start in because the summer session has already begun? I suggest emailing with Jessica when she returns next week.

Be patient, stay with this school as they're a very good option. I wouldn't take the time off work just to wait for them, I would continue working and if they have any information they require from me, to request it by email since it's your preference of communication. If you need to contact them, email the admissions/registrar to see what is missing or required of you.

When you applied, you were assigned an enrollment specialist. They walk you through the application and the whole process until you're admitted. Why wouldn't UMPI know more transcripts are coming? You're supposed to list them all on your application. They can also see your transcripts on the National Student Clearinghouse.

Sometimes the enrollment specialists are running late for phone calls. I did have all of mine and I had follow up emails. Have you called the YourPace Admissions? You might want to try that. Keep in mind that the university is on summer hours so they're working fewer hours and closed Fridays.

This was not my experience. But I ordered all of my transcripts the day I applied. I kept in touch with my enrollment specialist to stay up to date on what UMPI had received. It took a few weeks for me to be accepted. The Registrar had to process several transcripts for me. The Registrar is 1 person who works on 2 campuses. They just had graduation and are also processing the graduates. This is a busy time of year. If you have questions, I would call the YourPace Admission office.

Thank you! That helps a lot. Regarding the transcripts, I said they wouldn't have known because I ended up doing 3 more classes while I was waiting. For example, I was waiting for some assignments to be graded on Sophia when they released a new class, so I knocked that out in a couple of days and sent an updated transcript. I also took a class for work that happened to be ACE approved. I wasn't counting on them for my degree plan, so I didn't wait to finish that before applying. I had emailed the school and they had told me that it was fine to keep sending additional transcripts, so I did.

I understand about the holidays and busy season. And I don't mind them running late... it was more that I had waited for the call for over an hour and they never called. And then I wasn't getting a response to any of my emails, so I was just curious why they'd insist on having a call and then cutting off communication.

Anyway, thanks so much. I'll try calling the offices you mentioned. Stay safe!

Thank you so much! I had read such good things about UMPI, I'd really been hoping I'd end up finishing there. In response to your other questions, I applied for the BLS in Management. I hit about 124 credits (my list is at home). I know that not all of my credits will be accepted everywhere, but I made sure I had well over 90 for UMPI. I had a lot of ACTFL credits for a language they don't teach there, so I'm not sure if that will cover me for foreign language and I didn't take Government yet... but I have to take 30 credits there anyway, so I figured I'd do those there. I only have about 10 RA credits, so I took your advice and applied to UMPI, Brandman, Excelsior, and WGU to see what they take and where they put it all. I'll certainly share my evaluations when they come in and will keep waiting. The enrollment guy had said it looked like they had everything but that the transcript review wasn't finished, but I'll keep checking in with them and update you all when I get my evaluation. Thanks again for all your help! You've been a lifesaver.

I think I indicated that I wanted to start in the fall, but when I had spoken with someone soon after I applied, she had said that she thought I'd get an answer in time for summer. That clearly hasn't happened, but I'm hoping for some kind of update soon so I can figure out which school I'm headed to and/or whether I should take anything somewhere else this summer. I'll definitely reach out to Jessica. I didn't know she was out of the office, but I'll try her next week if I don't hear from anyone else there before then. Thanks again and stay safe!

Hey guys. I finally received my degree audit today, and most of it was as I expected, except that the HR Management should be complete. I was very happy that they took the ACTFL exams for the foreign language requirement even though they were in a language that isn't taught at UMPI. The question I do have for you all is about the missing Gen Ed requirement D. I'm going to speak with Jessica to get her okay to do the Government somewhere else (i.e. SDC) while I wait to begin. Does anyone have any advice on what I can take to fill the D requirement also? I'm replying to my last post as it has a list of everything I have taken already. Thanks so much!

Which GEC D? There are multiple Learning Objectives. If you're asking about American Government you can take it from InstantCert and transfer it in. I'd ask Jessica for permission to do this.

Why do you think HRM should be complete? Did you take elsewhere? What did you take? If it was a Study.com course UMPI recently reevaluated the HRM courses on Study.com and changed how they are accepted.

nmnyc11, from the picture, you need ENG 211 or HUM 130. Email Jessica and see if you can complete an alternative course, you're going to by emailing or speaking with her anyways in regards to the GEC E - POS101, American Government course. I would ask about Art History I or II at Sophia.org!

Thank you again for pointing me in the direction of UMPI!  Smile Just as a PSA, the Sophia Art History courses seem to fill only 2E now. I did email Jessica because I remembered that I took Photography at a SUNY. It involved both taking photos myself to create my own portfolio and writing critiques of other photographers' work, so I asked her why it wouldn't fulfill "Students will be able to produce a tangible expression of creativity." We'll see what she says. I don't mind taking POS101 or HUM130 there; I was just curious to see if anyone had an alt-credit recommendation that I could knock out as I waited.
