Oh wow, this might be a great game changer... I was thinking of changing my degree at TESU from Bio/CS to Biology/Environmental Studies and getting the WGU BSCS or their BSSD instead... decisions decisions... Hopefully they'll come out with some update sooner so I can really decide!

I wonder, has anyone started mapping out *potential* degree plans for UMPI BSCS yet? I was actually considering returning to WGU for a BSCS at some point so it would be interesting to map out which courses might transfer to both schools to maximize my options. Also, considering TESU BACS as a potential option.

This would definitely be a game changer and would have me enroll in this program immediately if they enact this in the near future. And unlike WGU, it has the advantages of both being a brick and mortar university as well as giving out letter grades which is almost necessary for good law/business/graduate schools.
When I talked to Dr. Chang in late January of this year, this is what she said in regards to my question about any plans for a technical YourPace degree:
"Thank you for your interest in the YourPace degree programs! I fully agree with you that a competency-based education degree program in Computer Science would generate interest with students (and employers). We are currently in the process of ramping up a curriculum that would suit this need - but do not have a timeline quite yet.
Currently, I think that the closest to a technical/science degree through YourPace might be the Bachelor of Liberal Studies, minor in Management Information Systems. Depending on your past experience and career goals, this may fit your goals. Happy to discuss/Zoom further if you would like.
I look forward to working with you."
So I'm highly encouraged that it seems they are starting to get going with those plans. I would for sure sign up if they do it at the beginning of next year.

There is or there has been a plan for UMPI to seek ABET accreditation in Computer Science, according to the CS department site faculty page bio of Prof. Rafiul Hassan. "He’ll be working to secure accreditation for the UMPI Computer Science program with ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.)." It isn't specified whether the accreditation sought would be limited to the on-campus program or would include a future YourPace program.

> ABET accreditation in Computer Science
isn't that only necessary if you want to work for NASA or the US patent office ?
nobody else really cares about it

That would be for the on campus program. Nothing in YourPace has an accreditation outside of RA. That professor is pretty new to UMPI. He was hired to run the new on campus CS program when it launched last year.

Not surprising. I don't think we'll see any new degrees until the move to Brightspace is complete. Remember, 2023 started 3 weeks ago!
