It has to be a Biology class to meet the 3C and 3D requirement and they are 4 credit hours and 8 weeks long. This is a good option if you don't want a proctored class, but, sounds longer than the Study.com BIO100 class which might take about 1 month. I think the ASU class would run about $400 if you take the grade.
The local community college is offering free tuition this Fall and they have an 8 week Biology class so he may do it there depending on the amount of time he is willing to spend on this class.

If he can get the course for free at the community college, that would be my first choice as it's RA and graded, even though it may take longer than the Study.com course. Hands on lab courses are better than virtual labs, so this is the better option... I would only chose alternative credits IF there is a specific reason to do so, such as it'll be more expensive, takes more energy or time to complete, course isn't offered in the next term or something, etc...

@ss20ts-
I appreciate it. I was looking back over the thread and there had been some question about what might transfer so I wanted to clarify what I found out from UMPI. I am not sure why BIO101L from Study.com transfers, but, ASU BIO100 The Living World does not transfer. Both classes have labs. Unlike some other colleges, UMPI is very specific about wanting students to have a *Biology* (or Anatomy) Lab Science as opposed to any Lab Science like Geology, etc.
In case other people don't like proctored exams, it sounds like either taking the course at ASU with the courses you mentioned is the best option or free at a Community College isn't a bad option especially since it is free. I think the cost of an ASU course is about $400?
Otherwise, it sounds like BIO101L at SDC is the shortest way to satisfy the BIO Lab Class requirement.

UMPI DOES accept geology and other sciences for the lab science requirement. I used a geology class (Surface Geology) from a community college for my lab science. They are picky about the lab. The ASU BIO100 course description doesn't specify what takes place in the lab. Some schools have the lab as a separate credit. That seems to transfer easier at UMPI. I'm just happy we have lots of options for the lab science. Everyone doesn't want to play with an owl pellet! That does not sound like fun at all to me. Give me rocks any day! LOL

An owl pellet dissection does not sound fun (regurgitated mice bones...yuck!).
I made a very distinct point of asking Jessica Winslow at UMPI if Biology *specifically* was required. Perhaps it was just based on my son's science courses he took so far (Weather and Astronomy...no lab), but he stated that he *must* take a Biology class to meet category 3C and 3D like BIO101L SDC or the ASU BIO181 or Anatomy class you recommended if not taking the course at UMPI.
It might be worth it for someone to check what their situation might be and I am glad you were able to take Geology.

The requirement is either a Biological Science or Physical Science course with a lab - so I'm sure that she assumed that since your son already took the Physical Science course and that requirement was out of the way, that he'd want a Biological Science course with lab. He could also take A&P w/Lab.
But he can definitely take a Physical Science course w/Lab, and then he'd still need a Biological Science course.

Yeah he still needs to meet the life sciences part of the GEC. Human Biology from Sophia does that. He can take a different science with a lab if he wants. It doesn't have to be biology. I think you're a bit confused about the GEC. Life science is not 3D. 3D is environmental and physical science. He already has that with his weather course.

Your right, I was confused. Thank you for providing this link as I went back and looked at the General Education Category list again. I wan't sure what each of the letters and numbers (i.e. 3E) met so this was helpful.
Based on this list and what you stated, it looks like my son would have met the 3D category:
"Students will be able to describe environmental or physical aspects of the Earth and its abiotic systems, and discuss humankind’s effect on and place within these systems."
So, Weather should transfer to the UMPI ENV 120 Meteorology...correct?
For the 3E requirement: "Students will perform scientific inquiry including aspects of the scientific method, such as observation, hypothesis, experiment, evaluation, and communication.", it looks like taking GEL101 Introduction to Geology for 4 credits (includes a lab) would satisfy the UMPI GEY 112 Fundamentals of Geology class with a lab for 4 credits and satisfy the 3E requirement...correct? I know he would prefer to take Geology over Biology. Do you or does anyone else know if Geology is offered with another provider like SDC or Sophia?
Thanks,
Education Seeker

Geology with lab is not, as far as I'm aware, offered at any alternative sources. SDC has Chemistry w/ lab, but that's something completely different.
If he doesn't already have a biology class, he'll need one, but he can take Sophia's Human Biology (no lab) and be done with it in a couple of days.
In progress:

Don't you have a spreadsheet to keep track of the GEC? I thought you created one. It feels like you ask the same questions over and over. Too much planning can make it difficult to move through a degree.
His weather course may come in for 3D. He can take Environmental Science on Sophia and it will 100% for sure fill 3D.
He cannot take GEL101 from UMPI. That course is on campus only. There is only 1 option for the lab science in YourPace and it's the class with the owl pellet. Seriously have him take Study's bio w/ lab and be done with this. There's also a chem w/ lab available on Study. Geology he'd had to take at a local community college. Sophia does not offer any lab sciences. The amount of time spent on this back and forth and he could have completed the course already.
