The SEE by way of portfolio assessment was basically what i was thinking.  thank you for understanding what i was getting at.  I wasnt exactly banking on that working and if its a ridiculous cost then i'd give up on it but it was a thought.    So thank you (in a non sarcastic way) of raining on my parade.  I wanted to know if that was a stupid idea or worth the effort.

If you're considering becoming a CPA, please really review and understand what NYS requires. The will be changing the requirements in August 2027 as well. NY is VERY strict on required courses and ACE credit has not been accepted. They want RA credit. Go for the BA in Accounting. That's what you'll really need in addition. You're going to need 150 credits so consider a master's degree in the near future as well.

Forget the portfolio assessment. Those are charged per credit and you're not guaranteed to earn the credit. They require 3-5 paper each course plus documentation from work and managers. Take the courses at UMPI in YourPace. They're much faster and easier. They are also a flat tuition fee.

I am not at all shocked to find NY is a nightmare on any regulation  Big Grin    My gut tells me that with the rest of my background I will likely NEVER go for the CPA. it was mostly in the back of my mind is all.

I was actually thinking that it would probably be pretty quick and easy to take Federal tax 1 and 2 at UMPI given my background BUT on the off chance I could get credit for it quick/easy it was worth at least asking here.

Even if you are a certified and experience Tax Preparer/EA, Fed Tax I and II are not set up well at all. They are probably the most tedious courses in the Accounting major, simply because UMPI hasn't really figured out how to teach those subjects well. Federal Taxation I's Final Assessment includes the IRS VITA Exam, which isn't even available again until Nov/Dec 2024 (surprise). And Federal Taxation II is even more opaque and difficult becasue there is so little feedback in the course aside from the FA Draft, whcih has left many students super frustrated and they don't even know if they are passing or failing the course.

The VITA Exam has been waived for months and is still being waived.

Thats good information.  Or not good depending on how you look at it.  thank you all the same.  Thats actually pretty off putting.  Maybe I need to rethink things a little as far as UMPI goes as i finish nocking out my 90+ at sophia.   Should be right around 70 by the end of the weekend

Hello again.
Looking for some critiques and advice since my first post was so helpful.

I think I'm leaning toward BLS accounting and maybe combo another business minor (open to suggestions)

I'll apologize in advance for this being very long but I want to provide as much info as I can for anyone willing to help answer some questions

I've used the wikis as much as I can to piece this all together so now it would be great if the experts can help set me straight to finish my Sophia work
and get enrolled at UMPI.   Here goes...

GEC mapped as best as I can figure from the wiki:  (right column courses i've completed - if blank then i still need to fill)

1A - Writing with a clear purpose             English Composition I
1B - Engage primary & secondary sources
1C - Deliver effective communications      US Gov but that is also 5E
1D - Written & oral communication
2A - Recognize & analyze                        Ancient Greeks AND Intro Ethics
2B - Identify general and/or disciplinary    all 3 (intro sociology, Ancient Greek and Intro Ethics)
2C - Identify evidence/findings,
2D - Creative expression                         Visual Communications
2E - Knowledge of arts & literature          BOTH Art History 1 and 2
3A - Mathematical Models                       College Algebra   (Does UMPI not take Foundations of Statistics at all?)
3B - College-level math                           Again - College Algebra  (should i do Intro Stats or Intro College math @ Sophia?)
3C - Biological processes                         Human Biology  AND also Intro Nutrition
3D - Environmental or physical                Environmental Science
3E - Lab science                                    Bio Lab Sophia
4A - Information literacy                         0-credit 1-2 hour YourPace orientation.
4B - Distinguish scholarly, professional,
4C - Compare & contrast info                   All 3 - Ancient Greek,Intro Ethics, Approach Religions
5A - Knowledge of diverse world views      Intro Sociology Sophia
5B - Historical contexts                            BOTH US History I US History II @ Sophia
5C - Non-English language skills               Need to do Spanish 1 @ sophia still
5D - Moral reasoning & ethical behavior    All 3 again (Ancient Greek, Intro Ethics and Approaches Religion)
5E - Civic understanding                          US Government  BUT also listed as 1C

I did see this note on one of the Wiki pages  "Courses can be used twice to fill the requirement, but they won't double count as credit hours."

Full List of Sophia I have completed if it makes it easier to digest:

English Comp 1
US History 1
US History 2
US Government
Art History 1
Art History 2
Environmental Science
Visual Communications
Ancient Greek Philosophers
Approaches to Studying Religions
Human Biology
Human Biology Lab - 1 credit
College Algebra
Foundations of Statistics  - 2 credits   degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_Sophia_Transfer_Equivalents shows 3 credits
College Readiness  -- Not accepted at UMPI ??
Financial Accounting
Introduction to Business
Introduction to Information Technology
Introduction to Psychology
Introduction to Nutrition
Introductions to Ethics
Introduction to Sociology
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Project Management
Principles of Finance
Developing Effective Teams - 1 credit
Conflict Resolution
Business Ethics
Business Law

I plan to finish Spanish 1 at sophia shortly.  Thinking about doing the Micro Bio / Lab as i see that is UL credit.

Do I need another math class?  I did College Algebra  and Foundations of Statistics  (wiki shows found stats as 3 credits but sophia says 2 and will this cover 2nd math req)

Should I do any of the following:  English Composition II, Workplace Communication, Workplace writing 1 or 2, Business Communication, Public Speaking  I did US gov which shows in the 1C column but still need 1B / 2C

If adding a 2nd minor in addition to the accounting part for the BLS is it worth me doing any other business courses at Sophia?

Sorry for the excessive post here.  I tried to sort this myself but its time to call in the experts here as
I am just about done with my 90 and transfer to UMPI so I just want to put my ducks in a row

Thank you again !!!

English Comp 1 works for 1A and 1D.
1B,2C, and 4B can be covered with English Comp 2.
3A and 3B College Algebra works for both. That's the only math class you need, unless you're doing a Business degree.

These courses above are listed this way on my evaluation I received last month.
Yes, courses can duplicate in the GEC, but you still need a total of 40 unique GEC credits. Which will be about 14 different courses.

Basically, I would recommend you create a spreadsheet and link us for feedback... Please create a spreadsheet and review the WIKI, link us to the spreadsheet for members to comment on changes (if needed). Save it to your google or one drive and make it viewable (not editable).

Thank you for the feedback and taking the time!!  So if im understanding then I should be good with the math i have so far because its a BLS.

I know there were a lot of questions in my post. I'm really just trying to make sure I am not missing anything as I am new to the planning the transfer part.

If anyone can answer any of the other questions i would be grateful !!

I did review all the wikis I could as i have been finishing up these last bunch of courses at Sophia. I just wanted to be sure on some of the questions i had left
after all the wiki use and trying to make sure i had everything covered etc.

Sorry for my format I provided.  I'm not a user of any cloud spreadsheet programs.  I've been keeping track in a text file for myself so I just pasted in what I had.
