Texas A&M University-Commerce competency based degree
#31
With all of the writing required for a Master's, a UMPI degree and its papers would probably be the best way to confirm if you can continue on to a grad degree.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

I think your best bet is to sign up for a relatively inexpensive UL writing course somewhere, to dip your foot back into the waters and see what you think.  Something like WRTG312: Persuasive Writing or WRTG315: Writing in the Social Sciences from BYU-IS for $654.  Yes, it's not a $100 course, but it will teach/re-teach you to write, and make sure that you are writing at a high level once you're done.  At that point, you'd probably be able to figure out if it's what you want to continue, or if you hate it so much you're not willing to do a master's program at all.

A second degree seems like a lot of work just to prepare you for a master's program, especially using the methods we have here, which are inexpensive courses without much writing (and certainly not enough to prepare you for a rigorous master's program).

Not saying that people here can't go on to a master's program successfully, because many do quite easily, but if you're not feeling prepared, I think there's better preparation than a 2nd degree using alt-credit.

Yeah, you really don’t need a second degree to prepare for your Master’s. Start with those Clackamas APA courses, move on to ONU’s English and History courses for $150 a pop, and then hit up BYU, if you feel the need.

You’ll have a great re-introduction to the writing process and you will have done it on your own time without having to spend a bundle.

And it’s all graded RA credit, if you need to use it.
IN-PROGRESS:

Officially, TAMU Commerce is requiring US History I and Ii and Texas Government/Political Science in addition to the 30 major credits. This was prior to official transcript evaluations. I pointed out I already had us history I and Ii through Sophia and they said "I'm sure you'll get credit when we finish evaluating your transcripts," and waived those. I still need Texas Government/polisci. So it'll be 11 classes/33 credits.

Seem to be no other hiccups.

But for now I'm very much leaning against doing the program as I just think I won't have time due to increased work commitments/potential promotion.

Can you point me toward the Clackamas APA courses?  I tried to find it myself, but kept going in circles.

That’s pretty much what I found too.  I emailed them and was told that the Sophia History classes ARE approved to cover the history classes.  I have US History 2 covered, but I would need US History 1.  I also have the US Government class covered.  I think it is on my short list of potential options.

Thanks.  I was overlooking the need to select “Writing”.  Do you have to first apply to the college in order to see prices and enroll?
