TESU BA Computer Science Degree [need advice]
#1
Your Location: California, USA
Your Age: 29
What kind of degree do you want?: TESU Computer Science BA (possibly an additional BA or AS degree for dual degrees)

Current RA Credits: 40.68
University of California Davis: 14.68
City College of San Francisco Total Credits: 26

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 50

Certifications: N/A
Budget: $29k in personal savings.
Commitments: Part time work: 10 hours/week. 1 hour morning, 1 hour afternoon every weekday
Dedicated time to study: As much as needed for faster graduation. 31 hours/week -> around 7 hours a day.
Timeline: As fast as it can possibly happen. Ideally by Spring 2025 at the very least for BACS.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I'll take whatever financial aid I can get. Parents are covering for me.

Credits yet to be transferred:
MAT-2700: Discrete Mathematics (3 credits) - SDC
COS-2400: Operating Systems (3 credits) - SDC
COS-3300: Computer Architecture (3 credits) - SDC

*CIS-3110: Database Management (3 credits) - SDC
CIS-3010: Management Information Systems (3 credits) - SDC
*CIS-3200: System Analysis & Design I (3 credits) - SDC

JAPA 1A/Elementary Japanese (3 credits) - CCSF/semester
JAPA 10A/Beginning Conversational Japanese (3 credits) - CCSF/semester

asterisk = waiting for another free exam before course completion

I forgot the password to my old account, but after a lot of progress I'm posting about my current condition now. I think I'm extremely close to finishing the BACS Computer Science Program. But there are a few things I am confused about.

For the Japanese classes, does anyone know if they apply a transfer equivalency for electives? They are RA credits from a community college.

The MyProgress chart for the BACS program only requires me to complete less units for a few categories (i.e. English Comp I or just needing 26.66 credits to complete the Electives portion).

Adding up all the units together puts me around 2 units short of 120, which kind of confuses me because all the classes listed on my spreadsheet would complete the student portal progress chart.

Considering if I pay the residency waiver fee, should I take 9 units at TESU (Info Literacy, Software Engineering, and Capstone) or is it better to take Info Literacy at edX and pass the Saylor Software Engineering exam?

I am also wondering if I complete my BACS program, would I be able to complete another degree that does not take many classes to complete? I've heard of dual CS/CIS or CS/Math. Are there any other good dual degrees to go for?

Basically, did you complete all the Sophia.org and other transfer credits from Study.com already? Are you at the final 15 credits or so? Here's the previous thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...completion

All the ACE credits are almost done and need to be evaluated first. All Sophia courses are complete, and Im waiting on the exam scores for two UL courses. Then I can send them for evaluation.

This is depending if my language classes are accepted for elective credit. All that is left after that is Software engineering, SOS-101, and the capstone. So I'm practically at 9 credits left.

I'm also wondering if there is another major to make it a dual degree with the least amount classes required.

There's something weird happening with your fractional credits. You have Advanced C++ from CCSF as 3.33 credits. If it's a 3 unit course, then you've overstated it and if it's a 4 unit course, then the other 0.67 should show up somewhere else. For Sophia College Algebra, you have 0.33 credits under GE electives which leaves 2.67 missing from the spreadsheet.

I don't see any particular reason for you to take Computer Architecture from TESU. It will just cost you more money. Taking Info Lit from EdX only works for the BACS. I think if you try the dual degree, then you'll have to take it from TESU. Unless someone else knows better.

Yeah you are right about the fractional credits. Advanced C++ is actually 4, College Algebra is 3, and Human Biology is 3. I definitely miscalculated the credits for those. So it did end up being around 120 since other requirements needed less credits than normal like electives or English Comp I

I'm still up in the air about a dual degree because it would be nice to get another one if it doesn't take that much longer, or would it be possible to submit my BACS on completion and then go for another degree?

You can, but there are a few things to be aware of.

1. When you graduate them together, You can have up to 9 credits overlap in the Area of Study. When you do one after the other, you have to make sure that you have 24 NEW credits (ones taken after the first degree is awarded). The difference is subtle, but the main point is to make sure to leave ALL of the credits that are specific to the second degree to be taken after the first. Don't work ahead.

2. If you are paying the residency waiver, it expires after a time. So the second degree shouldn't follow the first by too much time or you might be on the hook for a second residency waiver fee. (It used to be a year, but I can no longer verify that on the website, so you need to verify what the policy is now).

3. You will have to pay a second graduation fee if you don't graduate them together.

If you use EdX for the cornerstone for the BACS, I'm really not sure what happens if you come back for a second degree. Normally, having a first degree would automatically satisfy all of the GenEds, but I'm not sure what that means for the EdX cornerstone. I'm inclined to think that it would be covered just like the GenEds, but you might find yourself having to take the cornerstone over again from TESU.

Unfortunately I missed the deadline for November since I'm still waiting for my other credits to be evaluated, I backed myself into a corner here.

I also noticed Software Engineering is not offered in December I was kind of hoping to complete everything in one term. Do I have no choice but to also do January term for Software Engineering?
