TESC Psych: making me crazy......science..what do we need????

So I'm wanting to map out a plan for a BA in Psychology.

One page of their website says I need 4-7 natural science credits:
Thomas Edison State College: Psychology

and then other places make it seem like I need 3:
Thomas Edison State College: General Education Electives

and then I see things like this that make me think maybe I can do 9 math credits and one 3 credit science:

Anyone know what is what? ---I'm incredibly bad at retaining natural science info. Can I get away with taking the TECEP Nutrition test only? or do I need the 4-7 and will need another class?

I know this might seem trivial but I really should be studying science right away so that I can test in August (summer is my slow time at work). --and of course TESC wont even talk to me yet.

Have you applied yet? It looks like TESC just made changes to their Gen Ed requirements. I was looking at other programs besides Psych and it seems there was some changes in requirements made. If you have already applied you will use the old requirements. If you have not applied you may have to use the new requirements. It looks like the changes were just made and the website wasn't fully updated yet. A few people on this site mentioned that TESC makes changes to their programs periodically usually in the Summer, June or July. The current requirements you linked to are much different than what was on their website previously. The previous requirements for Psych was 3 science electives but now it looks like at least 4 science electives. You may want to wait a few weeks in order for TESC to finalize changes but looks like TESC has new Gen Ed requirements. I went online to my Online Student Services account to see if they updated that What if feature but it is still using the 2014-2015 catalog.

I'm not sure about how to answer the question about applying. So I applied and paid the application fee on June 14th. They have all but one of my transcripts ---Patten University is a NIGHTMARE to get transcripts from - so I think they're waiting for that before I am "admitted" or something.....I'm not sure.

I guess I will just have to wait and see. ugh!!

Are you able to log into my Online Student Services? Even if they haven't finished you Academic Eval you might still be able to view what catalog you are under. You might be lucky and will be following the old requirements and might be able to avoid taking any science classes, sometimes CIS or Math classes will satisfy that requirement. It sounds like you will be using the catalog that was in effect June 14 which might be the previous Gen Ed requirements. In order to remain an active student after applying, you must enroll within 6 months or 1 year for Corporate Choice Program. You can easily enroll by signing up for a TECEP exam. Usually after applying and paying they will admit you, usually 1 to 2 days. Then it can take up to a month for them to do an Official Academic Evaluation. The Academic Eval will show what courses you have completed from Transfer and what courses you have left to complete. I think they usually wait for all transcripts so that might be what they are waiting on.

I see they've come up with new cutesy terminology for the Gen Ed sections again. Gather "Literacy" is the new buzz word. P&SR changed to Civic and Global Learning (rolls eyes). Someone is actually getting paid to come up with this stuff? Unbelievable.


To your question - only need 3 Math /quantitative literacy (IPS) and 4-7 NS/M (physical and natural world) credits. Below are two scenarios.


A. IPS / Quantitative Literacy:
MAT 115 Intermediate Algebra Aleks (3)

D. Physical & Natural World:
COS 101 Intro to Computing DSST (3)
ENS 200 Environmental Science Straighterline or BIO 208 Nutrition TECEP (3)


If you can handle basic math, I would recommend using Aleks Intermediate Algebra for the math requirement and run through the IC cards for college mathematics once or twice you will easily pass the lower level Math CLEP and TECEP. They are both high school level and you are able to take advantage of using the same study material to pass multiple multiple exams.

A. IPS / Quantitative Literacy:
MAT 115 Intermediate Algebra Aleks (3)

D. Physical & Natural World:
MAT 102/103 College Mathematics CLEP (6)

E. General Ed Elective:
MAT 105 Liberal Arts Mathematics TECEP (3)


Edit to add:
In looking at the 4-7 credits in Physical & Natural World, thinking there may be a lab requirement on the horizon? If so, good thing you got in prior to the catalog change. SL has an online lab available although the kit has a rep of being pricey.

I applied on the 14th and paid. Then I emailed to find out what was going on since it had been a while and I couldn't get into online services. They replied that they were waiting for my resume since I had applied for human services major. I told them that I tried to change it to psychology and they replied back that they would change it when my application is processed. That was two days ago and I still can't access online student services. So I'm not really sure what the status is. I'm going to try calling tomorrow.
I'm hoping I can get in under the 2014-2015 rules.
