Good morning all,
Here's hopefully an easy thread for those of you who have taken TECEPs online; how's the verification process like? I've never taken an online proctored exam, so I'm wondering what the proctor could possibly mess around with once I'm sharing my monitor with them (not that I'm worried about what I have on my laptop, although the Straighterline topic has me kind of worried about what stuff they could mess with).
As well, what would you all recommend for a microphone? I've never really used one, but in all the times I've done Skype with my family members I could always use a mic on my laptop without setting it up (and I'm not even aware how I could access it; I just started speaking to my family out of habit). I'd rather not risk it during an exam though, so what kind of mics have you all been using?
Thanks once again; with how I've planned my degree so far, Strategic Management should be on the only TECEP that I'm considering taking with a pen and paper.

Hi OfficeA,
I have taken 4 exams through ProctorU. I was skeptical of the process prior to my first one, but now don't give it a second thought. If your laptop has camera and built in mic it should be fine. On two of my exams we seemed to have a slow connection with significant lag so the rep just typed all the instructions in the chat window instead of by voice. So the quality of the mic can't be too important. On the ProctorU site there is a video which walks you through the entire process and is helpful to understand just what will take place. As far as them messing with your computer via remote, all they do is close any un-needed programs in the background, check your video settings to ensure you don't have multiple monitors hooked up and that's it.
Not a big deal at all. the video part minimizes as well as the chat box so you can just get on with your testing and not bother that you are being "watched". My last test was in middle of the day and then my dogs went wild with the arrival of the FedEx guy. Less than a minute later I got a chat message from the rep asking if everything was okay? I said FedEx was at the door and I would be right back. Rep understood and then we got right back to testing.
You mentioned the Strategic Management TECEP, I need that class but not sure if I will take the PennFoster one instead???
Good luck

JJ65 has discussed the major things you need to know. I'll just add that, depending on what part of the globe you live, you might be asked to present two different IDs for verification. In my case, I was asked to show 2 different government issued IDs. I guess this is because I am not in the US and the address verification could not go through...
I never had any problem whatsoever with the proctors. I always make sure that all webpages I was viewing before the exams starts are closed. I also switch off my other monitor which was connected to my system. In all, I think you'd be fine with ProctorU. Best of luck with your exam. Please feed us back on the Strategic Management exam.

I used ProctorU for my TESC midterms and finals. My computer has a built in mic and camera. If you can do Skype, you probably have everything you need. And yes, there is a chat box too.
The proctor didn't mess around with anything on the computer, just closed off all other applications besides the Internet and testing software-thing, and disabled screenshots. When they remote control your mouse, you'll be able to see where it's going and what they're doing.

Thank you all for the replies; I'm coming down to the last courses I need, which are also all for residency requirements, so I'd like to power through them as soon and as much as possible; at this point I'm fairly confident about the TECEPs I want to do, so I can just take the 2 or 3 last classes at my leisure afterward.
I'll definitely post feedback on all the ones I complete.
