Thomas Edison College President: Proposed Higher Education
#11
sanantone Wrote:Another option would be quite drastic and controversial, but it would only affect the for-profits. The federal government could just flat out refuse to use taxpayer dollars to make for-profit colleges billion dollar companies. I wasn't a business major, but other than maybe defense contractors that are also controversial, what other industry has mega companies that get more than 90% of their profits from public money? This is corporate welfare.
Spot on sanatone... we're seeing the same phenomena emerge with charter schools which are independently run by for-profit private companies.

That's even more disturbing because it's not like the parents of charter school students are taking out loans that have to be paid back. The money goes from the taxpayer to the for-profit, education management organizations and stays there.

topdog98 Wrote:... Okay, I checked on this. It did come from the Dept. of Education. The regulation is called "program integrity" and requires institutions to acquire authorization from each state for students to take online/correspondence courses.

I am finding it hard to understand how international students who attend online schools will be drafted into this? If institutions may have to acquire authorization from each state for students to take online/correspondence courses, what happens to out of country students?
