Hey everyone!
Wanted to update the forum on how my first semester at TAMUC is going so far. I started the Spring 2 Semester with 2 courses, History of USA after 1890 and Issues with Organizational Leadership.
I learned that to accelerate you need to complete both courses and from there you can accelerate one class at a time. The process to accelerate is a bit clunky and you need to get approvals from your professor and advisor and then the advisor will sign you up for the next class. I am in the process of trying to figure out what my next class would be as I already finished one course and am halfway done with the other.
For the classes, when you initially join in you must take a pre-test to determine your level of competency, if you test above 80% you can go ahead and take what they call the post-test aka final for the class and be done. The pre-test is lengthy with a test and several essays so it's not just a one-and-done multiple choice scenario. Plus you must wait until everything gets graded which can take a few days.
As far as difficulty level it is hard to tell at this point because I took a leadership class, and I have been in management for fifteen years and constantly reading and updating my skills. And a history class, which I am a history buff and the class was within my time frame of interest. So I will really be able to tell within the next courses.
Let me know if there are any questions!!

Probably people will want to know how many papers for each course and the paper length? Also, how many exams?
Do you have to wait for things to be graded to move on to the next step in the course?

For the two courses I completed so far:
Issues with Org leadership - but 1 pre-test, 6 quizzes, 1 5 min video essay, a 27 page questionnaire with a variety of short essays required within
History - 1 pret test, 2 short essays (200 words) 2 long essays 750-1000 words (still waiting for more on this class)
Yes, you need everything graded before you can move forward.

Did the 27 page questionnaire scare you or something else? <gasp> I was looking at that number and thought... hmm...

Hmm…a few days turnaround isn’t too bad, but I wonder if you’re going run into any bottlenecks because of the need to have everything graded before moving on.
A few questions:
-Do you have access to the entire course, so that after you submit an essay you can move on to the next quiz or essay? Or do they make you wait for that essay to be graded before allowing you to move on to the next section in the same course?
-Is the pre-test timed?
-Have you run into the need for proctors or did TAMUC mention them to you? Don’t ask about them if they haven’t brought it up, I’m just curious. That may also affect completion time.
-Is there any professor interaction, required or otherwise?
-Any interaction with fellow students, required or otherwise?
I know you’re busy with the classes, but keep us updated! I’m rooting for you!

Good questions! here are my answers:
-Do you have access to the entire course, so that after you submit an essay you can move on to the next quiz or essay? Or do they make you wait for that essay to be graded before allowing you to move on to the next section in the same course?
Answer: It has not been consistent throughout, but generally I have gotten access to the full course AFTER the pre-test has been graded. Then, I have been able to complete assignments throughout the course, and a few times I have had to wait for the final 'post-test' to be made available to me. So it has been a mix. The biggest bottle neck I experienced is their clunky process that you have to follow to accelerate. You need to get a confirmation e-mail from your professor and then an approval e-mail from the professor's who's class you want to take and input these e-mails into a form for your advisor to approve and let you sign up for the next course. As you can imagine, some professors take 2-3 days to get back to you, I have had to do numerous follow ups and was held up not being able to proceed once for six days which was super frustrating. I used this time to take two Sophia courses (because I had a membership) that I thought could go towards my credits and thankfully my advisor has accepted them. But yes, I am stressed that time-wise I may lose a lot of days due to this clunky system. Semesters are only 7 weeks and every day counts.
-Is the pre-test timed?
Answer: they all have been 2 hours with a max of 50 questions so far.
-Have you run into the need for proctors or did TAMUC mention them to you? Don’t ask about them if they haven’t brought it up, I’m just curious. That may also affect completion time.
Answer: No.
-Is there any professor interaction, required or otherwise?
Answer: Very little interaction with professors, just basic e-mails requesting grading (once papers have been submitted)
-Any interaction with fellow students, required or otherwise?
Answer: Almost none, each class has discussion boards I have so far been required to participate in but there is very little back and forth between the students, mostly everyone just answers the prompts and moves on.
I know you’re busy with the classes, but keep us updated! I’m rooting for you!
