Switching from TESC to Excelsior or Charter Oak

I'm just throwing out feelers on this right now, but I'm a currently enrolled student under MDCP with TESC, I'm worried about not being able to afford the ridiculous enrollement fee for TESC. Coupled with the fact that I still need to take 2 classes at TESC itself I'm looking at switching to either Excelsior or Charter Oak. With the courses I currently have/IP would this be feasible at this point in time. (Yes I'm aware that I could take TECEPS to avoid the enrollment fee, it just seems rather excessive to take courses I don't need.) I'm looking to get my degree in CJ or something similar. I considered doing a BSBA as a primary degree, but I'm terrified to take any sort of accounting course.

AARTS: 14 credit hours
FEMA: I've taken pretty much every course on FEMA IS
ALEKS: Intermediate Algebra, Statistics (IP), College Algebra (IP)

The thing with COSC is the Upper Level requirement. Your gonna need 30 UL credits (3 come from the capstone). I think that is the thing to consider first, your close on gen-ed (maybe done). The FEMA are still taken free of cast so that's a year done.

There are a number of Organizational Theory/Leadership courses and exams you could use, but I'm not sure that can be accomplished to bring he cost in line with your remaining TESC needs. You will also need the cornerstone course....those two alone will bring you to $1800 or so.

Excelsior should be completely out of the question because they will require that the FEMA credits be transcribed by FCC at $79 per credit hour.

If you want a CJ degree, you're going to have to take a lot of expensive courses at any of the Big 3. COSC and Excelsior will follow the ACE recommendations for Penn Foster and Propero courses. If they're evaluated as LL, that is how they will be transcribed. I thought MDCP came with in-state rates. Excelsior has two enrollment options. The $395 option will require 12 credits in residence at $465 each (after July 1st). I think it's 6 credits for active duty, guard, and reserves with a $130 discount until June 30th. The enrollment fee under the multisource option is $1,065 or $740 for military. You still have to take the 3-credit capstone and possibly the 1-credit information literacy course at $465 per credit hour.

Honestly, you're kind of far away from a BSBA, so the TECEPs would not be a waste. If you chose to do social science, you would still have a lot of room for TECEPs.

For active duty, guard, and reserve, the cornerstone and capstone at COSC will be $1,500. They will waive the semester fee. That sounds like a much better deal than Excelsior.

I'm confused. I don't see the enrollment fee under MDCP. All I see is $250 per credit hour, which is higher than what non-residents pay. This makes me think there is no enrollment fee. These are the prices for Oct. 2013 - Sept. 2014. I also see that those using the GI Bill have to choose the Per Credit Tuition Plan. I don't know if the cost per credit is still $250. And, under MDCP, you're considered enrolled at the time of application.

My plan has always been to transfer to the enrolled plan after getting the money together to avoid the residency requirement. As far as my actual core requirements I had planned to take those through Penn Foster (All CJ courses through ACE are recommended for LL credit, though TESC will credit several as UL). 3 of my AARTS credits are recommended for UL. I know to get at least some UL I can take some CJ courses through CSU - Pueblo for not much more than what PF charges, but that still won't give me the 30 UL needed for Charter Oak.

I have the money together plus a little extra to knock out the rest of all my courses (Penn Foster/CSU Pueblo/TESC) regardless of where I take them plus a little extra, but that will currently exhaust all my money in savings and won't have any left for the enrollment fee.

Or you could enroll under a partnership program at Excelsior with yearly enrollment at $185 ( I think) I'm enrolled under a POAG partnership. Excelsior College | Peace Officers Association of Georgia

It costs $25 per year to join POAG as an associate member. You have to take 12 credits at the school but I think its still cheaper than paying the 1,000 enrollment fee out and getting nothing for it.

12 credits would be $5580. That's at least over 160 credits worth of tests. I'd rather pay the enrollment fee.

I know a lot of folks get hung up on this. I understand your argument, but address this by simply stating I have a BS degree in Organizational Leadership and Health Care, I've been through a couple of background checks that involved moderate to high scrutiny and no one has questioned it.

It provides an effective way to blend subject areas, the greatest virtue is the flexibility inherent in the planning and execution. she asked how to study a subject yet keep costs down....this is how I would do it.
