Study.com

jsd Wrote:Good question. Study.com is making all of these great changes but ignoring the one I see the most gripe about.

Simply give a "preliminary score" so one can see how they've done while we wait for the tape to be reviewed for cheating.

This was the main reason my son didn't pull the trigger on the 12 month Study.com membership when there was a deal on it - he hates the idea of not knowing his score right away. It makes no sense at all, really, to make a student wait and worry when the information can and should be readily available. My son took his final today and wants to start the next course, but he has major anxiety and has decided to work on a Straighterline course instead because he appreciates the instant gratification factor of knowing immediately that he passed. I'd be willing to pay the $25 ProctorU fee per exam if Study.com made that option available.

It seems that the immediate exam score report especially makes sense in the case of a fail. Someone could immediately re-study the material and then retake the exam in three days. Otherwise he may have to wait up to two weeks to find out if a retake is necessary.

No other institution does this, there's no reason for study.com to do it either. If they share your concern, they can just increase the delay between retakes like everyone else does. At least this way you can begin studying right away for the test in two weeks, instead of having to wait two weeks to learn if you even have to study more -- which will take even more time.

It does make sense if you think of it in the context of the interval-based subscription model they use though. The longer they can delay giving you the information you need, the longer you'll keep paying.

I am not trying to argue, but I don't follow your reasoning. You say that no other institution does this, but CLEP, Straighterline, DSST, and many others give an instant grade. This is what I was lobbying for.

Exactly.

In fact study.com is the only alternative credit provider I have had experience with that takes days for a multiple choice final. SL did do it for Business Comm, and that was just because there were final papers.

I am agreeing; first read of that post it sounded like it was defending study.com's position, sorry!

Hi All-

We want to let you know that we hear your feedback, and we understand how inconvenient delayed exam scores are. We are currently working hard on a solution: providing instant score reports. With this functionality, you will see an immediate indication of whether you passed the exam or not. We will do all we can to deliver instant grading as soon as possible!

Thank you,
Study.com

With online proctoring, I don't know if i like instant grades. I think straighterline is the only one that offers instant grades. (that's saying a lot and not so much at the same time) I think the people that you take the test through, TESU, CSU, Study.com, whoever, should have a chance to review with the proctor to make sure you were actually proctored and that you didn't violate any terms. Once that is complete, then you can have your grade. This is how it works in my brain anyhow. I know that that's a major difference from procturu and examity, the ability to save students exam video and send the professor video clips of wondering eyeballs.
End goal is to get a cheap bachelor degree {CIS} that transfers to online master's degree at ncsu. I'm thinking statistics because less prerequisites. Vs computer science.

Started in January 2016 after NC prevented enrollment in WGU.
Clep, Dsst: Statistics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, World religions, Intro to Computers, American Government, Sociology, Fundamentals of Cybersecurity, Prin finance.
Straighterline: C++, Intro Comm, Accounting 1, Accounting 2, Business law, Managerial Acct, Business ethics, Into business, Organizational behavior,
CSU Global: Basic programming COS-208, Systems Analysis and Design.
TECEP: Network Technology, Strategic Management, business in society.
Saylor: Bus210 for Bus311 credit

denied enrollment to WGU October 2015 b/c NC sucks.
Prep for WGU: A+, NET+, Project+, Security+, CCENT, OCA java.
