Has anybody used a different textbook on the final exam. I have an old textbook that I am studying from which has the same info but is not the assigned text. The final is open book and I am wondering if I will be able to use it.

For the classes I took, they did not check the book. They would have me close everything out and then open the book I was using (ebook). I didn't use a different one though.

They won't check your book, however I STRONGLY recommend using the assigned text as most questions on SL tests are verbatim out of the text book and another book while seemingly covering the same information does not ensure that you'll get the questions right. Most of the SL questions seem to be trivia based instead of actually verifying concepts

actually I just took a straighterline course, and completed the final a week ago. I had a newer version of the book, an ebook also, and they would not let me test with it. they said that since it was not the exact book that it would be classified as unapproved study material, which is forbidden. Long story short, I did challenge it and straighterline confirmed the same thing. I bit the bullet and bought the ebook from straighterline, and took the exam. That was hard to do, but it was still the easiest class I have done, so all in all I am happy, but I will not be doing another straighterline.

I have taken 5 SL exams this month, and the proctors have never verified any of the materials I was using, which in 2 courses were the older versions of the ebook. The proctors are just kids, not professors administering the exams in a classroom. So don't volunteer any extra information that isn't asked of you.

The first dozen classes I took with SL, the proctors did not verify the version of the book or ebook. However, the last two finals I took (this week), the proctor verified the book - by looking at the cover - and specified that I could use the book or ebook but not both. So it is possible that the proctors have been instructed to verify this more closely recently.

Thanks everyone - I went ahead and ordered a used copy of the book.
