In my own opinion, a Doctoral degree in Counseling that can be done in 11 months is not worth owning.

I think they attempt to justify it by only allowing entrance to experienced counselors or those who are already licensed, whether that makes it acceptable or not is another story. At least they wouldn't be trying to drag it out over 2 years like Eastern Virginia Medical School does with its 42-credit Doctorate in Health Science which could realistically be done in 12 months if not for the way they break it up. Granted it's not in counseling, but still.

But this is all assuming the degree from Kairos is even set up the way its been mentioned here. $4,400 just seems too good to be true for a Doctorate from an RA school.

Hook, line, sinker, and yeah the website just reels people in because of the attractive tuition... someone who is interested in the program should always get clarification on the degree and anything associated with the costs, degree requirements, texts, timeline, and whatever else that they're looking for more info on... I thought it was $400/month and it would take 2-3 years, not the 11 months...

I had never heard of this school before.  I'd be interested in hearing about your experience if you've ever attended

So I got some info back from Kairos on that Doctor of Professional Counseling program. They told me it takes about a minimum of 2.5 years because there is a large project involved, so you're looking at around $12,000. Great price still.

People who are counting on such a degree in order to become qualified for state licensure may come to regret their 2.5/12,000 decision.

Honestly, if they're getting a Doctorate and they didn't know to look into their state requirements and get the information beforehand, then they have no one to blame but themselves. Sadly, there are people who don't check and then they come on message boards exploding over it. I've seen some doozies over the years at different boards for this sort of thing. They're hoping someone can tell them something to fix it, but by then it's way too late.

Yes.  And sometimes they already have a license based upon their Masters degree.  The pseudo-Doctoral degree looks good on the business card.  Most people don't ask questions and are easy to fool, even if they ask.  Personally, I don't believe that the people who obtain such degrees are doing so out of ignorance.  I believe that most of them know the real story.

I don't know how good or bad the program is, but 42 credits is lighter than what you'd normally see from a Doctorate in a mental health field. A foreign Doctorate that equated to the same credit amount would never get U.S. equivalency as a Doctorate through a credential evaluation.

I got some info back from Kairos, and the situation with the DPC is this:

1. You have to have a Master's in a mental health discipline.

2. You have to be licensed.

3. You have to be practicing.

My issue with it is that it's not really heavy on the counseling side like their Master's is and that's strange to me. Personally, I'd get the MA in Counseling, get licensed (or not) and go after a Doctorate in Psychology (preferably one eligible for licensing) elsewhere since it will be focused entirely on the science of Psychology.
