Sophia.org Experience
#1
I wanted to provide some insight for anyone that is thinking of taking Sophia classes to fulfill LL GE credits. I would say, the answer is a resounding, YES. I have completed 4 classes thus far. One class was a 1 credit class. The Intro to Information I think is easy to get thru as long as you understand how a computer works and networks. Ethics was a bit nerve racking as things seemed repetitive in nature but I still got thru it. Developing Effective Teams, not sure that I can get credit for that at TESU but I took it for the knowledge anyway. That is only a 1 credit class. Visual communications was also easy if you’ve taken a marketing class before.

It seems like you can easily test out thru the Sophia classes. The classes I took were within 3 days. I have prior knowledge in all the classes I have taken so far, so it was fast going thru the challenges then milestones. I am saving the classes at Sophia, that have touchstones for last.

I have 9 more classes to take from Sophia before I move on to SDC and Coppersmiths to finish off UL credits.

Keep on, keep on  Smile

I would highly recommend that you start taking the touchstone courses now. Otherwise, you're going to wind up spending more for Sophia. It'll still be cheaper than other options but why pay more when you don't have to?
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

I meant, I am focusing on the classes that don’t have a touchstone before I tackle the two on my list that have them, Public Speaking and Communication at Work. I am hoping to do all these classes within a month. No longer than 2. Right now it is $79 for a month, unlimited classes but only 2 at a time.

It’s unfortunate I didn’t tackle this when Sophia was free, last year. Oh well. I would rather pay $79/ month than $500/credit. Which I know I will have to sooner or later.

I agree with Rachel on the Touchstones too. Take 1 Touchstone course now. You get only 2 spots open. 1 for Touchstone and 1 for regular class is my recommendations. While you wait for Touchstones to get graded you can work on other classes.

Touchstones can take over a week to get graded. If you save it for last you can be waiting up to 30+ days to get them cleared. but if you do it alongside the other classes, you can finish them while you finish the others. I started with Eng Comp I, I finished half of Sophia's classes by the time they finished grading Eng Comp I. I started ENg COmp II finished the reminder of Sophia's classes and was still waiting on Eng Comp II grader feedback

Depending on where you plan to enroll, the Touchstone classes may not be necessary. For those considering attending UMPI, I don't recommend the Sophia courses. I really recommend the UMPI courses instead. They are FAR LESS work and can be completed significantly faster. I dropped Eng Comp II on Sophia because the grading was so awful. I took the course at UMPI and finished it in 3 days including the paper. I got an A+ on the paper. So much less stress! Lot less writing, too.

That is worth noting. Thank you. I have a spot open, so I will do as recommended. Thanks again!!!

I am leaning towards TESU, waiting to talk to someone at CoSC. I have all my English requirements from long ago. All my past credits are from RA sources. I just need to fill in as many LL GE credits so whatever I can do at Sophia, I am doing it Smile.

There was a free coupon code out now for Sophia.  It was out in Jan. free for 3 months.  I do not know if it still works.  Worth a try.  "Sophia2020" The touchtones are not that hard just so you know. We did a ton of courses last year, and most were very easy. The English ones were not worth the hassle to us though.

Thanks! I did find the code in Jan but when I attempted to use it I just got an invalid error code. I still feel like $79/ month is way better than other options out there. It’s too bad I didn’t know about Sophia in Dec when they ran the $149/ year deal  Sad .
