Hi,
I wanted to share my thoughts on this course.
I know some folks here recommended to complete it through SDC or CLEP due to the difficulty and grading timeframes but since I had a bunch of other courses to complete, I didn't mind waiting.
- I'll preface by saying I'm 35 years old and have never done a college level course until I started this journey a little over a month ago.
- 7 touchstones: Most of these touchstones were to prepare for the draft and revision essay at the end (outline, research, etc.). There was one touchstone where you had to read two dress code articles and write an essay, took me like 2 hours tops to complete.
- I didn't find these touchstones to be too difficult. I actually used a topic/outline from an essay from another course (US Govt.) so that made it easier. The most challenging part for me was the research, citations and references as I've never done this before.
- Total time was 19 days including the weekends. Took 1-3 business days for grading, never over 3 days. A few times I maxed out on the 2 open courses allowed by Sophia while waiting for grading but a quick chat with customer service and they opened a 3rd course for me.
- All in all, I estimate about 10 hours of work.
Would I recommend? If you're not in a rush like me and have other Sophia course to do, then yes. If you're trying to knock this requirement out fast, the other options are probably better.

Thanks for sharing! It is great to hear someone speak positively about Comp 2 on Sophia. I was lucky that I did not have to take this course, I was not looking forward to it after hearing about peoples negative experience with this class and Sophia.

TAMUC BAAS Org Leadership
SJC AAS Automotive Technology

I’m not a creative person at all and even with the challenges, I managed to finish with an 89% grade.

I took it for my TAMUC requirement. I honestly didn't think it was that bad as the format is tailored to ensure you write a good essay. My only complaints were the time not took to grade but, aside from that, the format was great.

I think what happened is in the summertime, everyone was doing Sophia and they got behind on grading. Things should be better now.

Ah ok that would make sense. All in all, Sophia was a great experience. Now on to Saylor and SDC!

At 10 hours there isn’t going to be any other source faster.

Well that is certainly a change from when I attempted it! It took over 2 weeks for every paper to be graded and the grading was horrendous! I lost so many points on things not in the instructions or rubric. It was the most frustrating course on Sophia. This was also before they added Touchstones to most courses so maybe they've finally hired enough graders.

I glad you had a good sophia experience with these english classes. I decide to take English Comp I at my local college due to reading bad experiences with Sophia on this forum.
I already had English Comp II from another college, and didn't want to have to write three essay in a month.

For those who don't like writing, you can try the CLEP/MS option if you're here in the US, they have the option for home/remote testing or if you prefer, at a college or approved testing site... There are other ACE options as well, depending on your budget and institution you're wanting to transfer to...
