So I am officially done with my TESU degree. It was conferred December 17th, and I received the actual diploma in the mail a few days ago.
I wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone on the board who has contributed so much helpful information, between the message board, the Wiki, and the test materials at InstantCert.
An extra special thanks to bjcheung77, who gave me the encouragement to consider TESU (which I'd ruled out because of the nonresident fee). TESU ended up being MUCH faster than either of the other two (UMPI wasn't a good option for me), and honestly, it ended up being the same price or maybe even a bit less, given all the extra coursework the others would have required.
I would also like to thank rachel83az and dfrecore, both of whom offered a ton of helpful input on specific issues and made recommendations.
Someone here (don't remember who, specifically) recommended contacting Don Stoltz for advising at TESU and that turned out to be fantastic advice. He was knowledgeable about a lot of obscure stuff, helped me file appeals to apply some of my credits to specific requirements (and he accurately assessed what they would and would not take.) I highly recommend anyone seeking reliable advisory information email to his attention or make an appointment with him specifically.
LevelUP (pretty sure that's who it was) had a great thread on how to knock out the SOS-110 requirements quickly and efficiently, and that was a godsend.
And there were many other threads that were super helpful.
I'll also offer up one other piece of advice, for those taking the Liberal Arts capstone: Choose Augustus Black as your mentor. He is probably the best college professor I've ever had, and I've had a lot over the years. He's incredibly generous with his time, very knowledgeable, a very fair grader, and he'll help you refine both your writing and your APA formatting skills. He's helped me become a much better writer. But his sections fill up fast.
I now have three other friends who are all pursuing a similar path, but don't spend much time outside of school requirements on the Internet, so I'll probably be popping in to ask questions on their behalf now and again.
And... I'll be starting my MSW in about 10 days. I applied during my one-and-only semester at TESU, got accepted to both schools where I applied, and chose Western New Mexico U.
