Seeking advice on GRE Psych vs. ECE exams

No, but I still had to fulfill my general education math requirement. I chose DSST Statistics because I had already covered some of it during my GRE prep. You can take Algebra or College Mathematics if you prefer.

I'm going to second this suggestion. My final evaluation ended up with 7 credits of overlap with the GRE Psych, instead of the four credits I had expected, but I had enough credits to make up the difference so I didn't care to argue it.

I had taken CLEP Social Sciences & History as well, but they did not deduct all six credits from my GRE Psych credits for that. I had an Introductory Psych course worth 4 credits. I am not sure where the other three were taken from, but I know it was only three additional credits that were deducted, not six like SS & History is worth. Maybe just three of the six credits for that exam are duplicative?

As for the original question, I do feel the GRE was worth it for me, and it would have been worth it for me at any score above the 60th percentile. I had hoped to get three or six upper level credits out of it to save enough money to stay in my budget, and I was pleasantly surprised to have knocked out 18 upper level so cheap. I think it's worth a shot, but you should have a back up plan. It's a gamble, and I had planned to take ECEs to fulfill my degree requirements. After I got my score, it was SO fun to cross all those exams off my list. I do think malcs idea of pursuing ECEs until the Oct GRE is a good suggestion, then if the GRE doesn't work out you won't feel like you wasted time, and it's a good way to split the difference between $130 for the GRE versus $1300 for all those ECEs.

I'm actually suprised they consider this (or at least part of this) duplicate credit for the GREsych, especially since the actual Psych content was about 10% (or less) of the SSH test. I'd find it a little more believable that they consider Stats duplicative, but that's just me. Either way, it looks like I have a test or two to add to my To Do list now... Bleh

I can understand being concerned about losing credits that have already been earned through duplication. Why are you concerned about losing history credits, in particular? You don't need any history credits to get a degree. Do you? Please correct me, if I am wrong.

I don't have the Liberal Arts Catalog on this computer. I thought the chart said you can use credits to meet more than one requirement. I take that to mean that your psychology major/area of focus/depth (or credits from the psychology GRE) can be used toward the social science gen ed, also.

Plus, since you will have all the social science credits you need for gen ed, I don't think you need any history credits. At least, I have not seen anything that says you do, like the humanities and math requirements.

That is not how I read that at all! It is in the fine print of the BS chart; I'll have to look it up later.

Actually, I see where you're talking about, and yes, you're right... Thanks NAP! One less thing I have to bash my head in for... Hehe

By the time I'm done, I should have either 133 or 135 credits total, so if the Psych Major covers the SSH area, I'm fine... In fact, if that's the case, I can rework my whole Math/Science area too and may not need to take the Natural Sciences CLEP... Hmmm

Well, if we are reading it correctly, I hope it means you can cut back on at least some of your credit overage. My apologies to your wife for sending you back to your spreadsheets! I have been talking about this nonstop, too. Now, you guys have me all excited about upper-level stats credits at ALEKS!

Added: Just make sure you still have enough Arts & Sciences credits.
