Salvaging FEMA credits
#1
Is there currently any way to salvage old FEMA credits and get them onto an official college transcript that would then be transferable to, say, UMPI or any other alt credit-friendly college? I’m aware of the Fredericks Community College pathway for FEMA courses but once they appear on the FCC transcript, will that transcript transfer over to any of the Big 3 or UMPI or anywhere else anymore? I completed just about every FEMA course in 2009 and would hate to see those credits go to waste.

Also, does FCC award a letter grade for FEMA courses that are transferred in? Only reason I ask is because it might be worth the money to “launder” those credits through FCC if I can then send my FCC transcript to LSAC.org to raise my overall GPA a bit.

Nevermind, I finally found the FAQ section for FCC and read that they do not assign letter grades to FEMA courses. Bummer.

TESU no longer accepts them. Excelsior might accept them via FCC, but they don't have letter grades - it is marked as P on the FCC transcript & it's $90 per credit - seems pricey and not helpful to your purpose. You may find the following helpful, but it seems doubtful that it would help your GPA in any way:

Suggestion - you may be better off concentrating on the term (or two) at UMPI instead and shoot for a 4.0 for the classes there.

Laundering credits usually does not work. FEMA credits are basically DOA and don’t have letter grades….

Just let the ship sail lol

That’s the plan! It’s been a long time since I used to frequent this forums and I was just trying to see if there’s any way to still salvage those FEMA credits. Lots of big changes in the past 11 years. Oh well. Thanks for your input!

I have nephews who are considering joining the military. Would FEMA credits on an FCC transcript or an Excelsior transcript be accepted by the DoD for gaining rank upon enlistment? I know that used to be a thing.

Remember your main goal of getting the Bachelors so you can get admitted to law school, do not get side tracked with trying to salvage alternative credits for now.  Just curious... Do you have an associates degree already, did you complete the FEMA PDS cert?  Here's the link for the PDS if you wanted a freebie cert: https://training.fema.gov/is/searchis.aspx?search=PDS

This is a thread for a degree, review the entire thread and click the linked thread on the last post: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...e-Pathways
On this particular last post, it illustrates how to get the Pierpont BOG AAS, Bachelors & Grad Cert with ENEB+Sophia.org for under $1K, however, you want to do the Pierpont BOG AAS, and get UMPI BLS with a couple minors of your choice instead using the same classes.

You can try to salvage your credits at Pierpont and UMPI by letting them know that FCC accepts them for their degree offerings, it's YMMV and a case-by-case basis, nothing is lost, plenty to gain. Complete the cheapies/freebies on the WIKI, You shoot for the Pierpont BOG AAS, ladder those to UMPI BAS or BLS, (add the UMPI AALS and forget it as your classes are done when you finish the BAS/BLS).

I haven't seen UMPI accept FEMA credits. Might be because they expired ages ago and they're not ACE credits. They do give credit to some military courses. Doesn't matter that FCC accepts FEMA credits. U of M would require an original official transcript from where the FEMA credits were originally earned.

It's probably much faster and easier to hop on Sophia and take whatever courses are still needed to transfer if one wants to attend UMPI. Lots of people lost a ton of credit when ACE moved to Credly and when FEMA changed. I have FEMA courses but there's no credit for them anywhere.

I started Human Biology and Lab today on Sophia. Other than that, I THINK all I need are 39 graded credits at UMPI that I will probably earn via YourPace. I could probably knock those out in two sessions and still be on track for my timeline goal of starting online law school in August.
