Non credit diplomas to supplement an MBA HM
#1
I am currently earning an MBA in Healthcare Management from WGU. My experience in the field is limited to enrollments into Medicare and referrals to assistance programs and Medicare billing inquiries. I am also working in the Managed care specialist certification through HFMA. I have considered supplementing this education with an additional "career diploma" in medical billing and coding. Would this look like an amateur step backwards? Or would it look more like an enthusiastic supplement to my education?

I would say that if you think it will help your career but not look good, that you get it but leave it off of your resume.

But, my guess is that it's unnecessary, and that it's the "amateur step backwards" as you put it. You're trying to go AWAY from that, not back towards it.

I would recommend skipping the career diploma's in anything once you're already got a Bachelors/Masters in your field. Those type of programs are similar to a vast majority of career certificates that get people in the door, since you're already "in that field and working", skip it. I would however recommend getting a graduate certificate in something you're interested in that will give you a leg up on the resume if it's not too much work - you need to see if the ROI is worth the extra energy/money/time.
