This is not necessarily because those are specifically Free Electives - this could easily happen if you had already filled up your GE's or AOS areas.
On my own personal eval, I had Small Group Comm come in as COM-302, but went in the free electives area. Does that mean that UL COM courses are free electives? Of course not. I just had the rest of my degree filled up, and this is where the course fit.

True. But in my case, my Gen-Ed section was not completed at the time of taking these courses. And my TESU advisor specifically told me that they would not count as Gen-Ed courses. Which is why, I satisfied my Gen-Ed requirements with Aleks math courses & Saylor’s Environmental Ethics. I was merely sharing my personal experience with these courses, if that helps. @dfrecore is indeed the most knowledgeable and experienced in these matters here, and they should know better.
