I was recently accepted at UMPI I’m debating 2 degrees, BLS in Education studies and professional writing and journalism. I have 14 years of experience in Early childhood education. I was asked to provide a resume for review. Any tips on writing a resume specifically for something like this? I haven’t had to write one in about 8 years so I’m pretty rusty to begin with. Anything I should make sure and include to show relevance to courses, etc? Thank you

I sent them my normal resume and was offered 12 UL credits for my work history. I have about 10 years of experience in management and they did ask about certifications/leadership courses I had taken. You do have to pay for those credits and they do not count toward your residency credits. I earned my BLS, management minor in October and just completed my BA in History this term.

Who asked for a resume? That's not part of the application process typically.
Oh you want work experience credits. Honestly I would just take the YourPace classes. They'll be faster than completing PLA courses which require multiple papers and documentation of your work history including letters from managers. YourPace classes are 1 paper for the Final Assessment. I was advised against completing PLA's by my advisor at UMPI.

I asked Jessica about credit for my work history and she told me to send her my resume so she could send it to be reviewed. I did not have to write one single paper or do anything else for my credits. I received 6 BUS 495 credits and 6 GEL 3XX credits. If I could go back, I would've only taken 6 instead of all 12 because again, they do not count toward residency credits.

Thank you, that’s helpful. I’m just wondering if I need to make sure to include anything specific about my work experiences or proof of all my trainings? Working in the education field I’m required to take 25 hours of trainings every year. I’ve accumulated a lot, but I don’t have proof of every single one I them, my previous employers would, and my current one. I don’t know how specific to get while writing the resume. I take care of children of all ages, but I have also been in charge of curriculum development, special needs IEP meetings, meetings with therapists, etc. teachers wear many hats lol any examples of resumes?

Oh you didn't do a PLA. Yeah these credits won't count in the 30 credits required to be completed at UMPI. These didn't come in as specific classes so it didn't really help the degree get completed faster as BUS495 is an internship which isn't required and there's a limited number of general elective credits required.

In my situation, I found it to help tremendously.. and it did assist with completing my degree faster. Those credits are also listed as “Prior Learning” on my transcript. Simply sharing my experience.
