REA vs. Peterson's
#1
Does anyone have any thoughts as to which is more helpful, REA or Peterson's clep books. I am taking four clep tests and have the main clep book for all the subjects and one REA for Interpreting and Analyzing Literature, but I wasn't sure whether it was worth it to purchase all the books for each individual subject. Has anyone just studied what is on this website without reading the books? I MUST pass all these clep tests so whatever tips anyone can give me would be a great help!!

Thanks!

I haven’t purchase any books and so far I have passed all my cleps/dsst with my little study formula. (IC forum+ Flash Cards ) + (Petersons + wiki) = PASS!

My husband and my daughter always use both REA and Peterson's (and IC, of course!!) and they have both passed every single test they've taken. 5 for him and 13 for her.

I've found the REA books very helpful; generally they have sufficient review and practice exams. If you are going to use the main CLEP book, you will probably want to use Peterson's. While REA's is helpful, it only contains practice tests; the Peterson's books contain a review section before the tests that is enimently helpful.

lreis,

I guess it kind of depends on which clep tests you take. Do you know which exams you want to take?

I am taking the English and Literature clep which, I am not so much concerned with because that is my strongest subject but I am also taking 2 historys and I really don't like that subject so I find it difficult for me to retain the information through reading only.

~Thanks for all the advice!!

Then, at least for the history tests, I would advise you to get at least one book for each. I have never used Peterson's books, (if they even have any) but I have used their practice tests, which are great. The REA books are also a big help. Hope you do well! Smile

Both my sons used the REA books to study for W. Civilization and US History. Because there is so much material to cover, it was immensely helpful to have the REA books that summarized what needed to be learned. I would recommend them.
