kimaya24 Wrote:I've seen people talk about ALEKS, but I don't really know what it is, I thought it was another test like DSST/ CLEP??? Does a college have to accept ALEKS for you to get credit? Because I go to Liberty University & I've never seen anything about them accepting ALEKS.

<cough> I can see why you are trying to save money! Yes, Liberty takes ACE, but there are some restrictions, so you should check with your academic advisor. What you're asking aboutt isn't "ALEKS" until you've asked abou ACE evaluated. Earn more credit for prior learning | Liberty University Online On this page they say they award ACE credit for certificates, so you'll want to first show your advisor that page- then say, what about credits that are not inside a certificate? For instance in math. If they say yes, then you can use ALEKS to meet that requirement. You're attending a private school that kinda has a reputation for doing what they want, so I wouldn't be totally shocked if they said no.

If I can be blunt, $100,000 for an undergraduate Christian-liberal arts degree blows my mind. I have no idea what field you're entering, but you must be optimistic lol. Maybe you CLEP out of more than 1 year and save big $$$$$$.

Do not expect to learn enough statistics in a week to pass the DSST test. Its simply not realistic. Kids sit in class for 4 months learning this stuff with a teacher and still need a TA's help.

I took the ALEKs stats after trying to learn descriptive stats for 2 weeks off and on. I realized that I would be in sorry shape to do these problems without a textbook or advanced calculator so ALEKs gave me the slow paced exam format I needed to prove I could do the work.

In the real world and in graduate school you need to know these concepts but you won't be expected to crank out anova and null hypothesis tests in five minutes. In most cases you will incorporate them into a paper where you have time to use other tools like excel to come up with the numbers.

I'm studying accounting and I already had some credits from 2 other community colleges. The problem was that my husband is in the Army & we move a lot and each time we moved I would have to find a different school like we moved to puerto rico and most of the schools taught in spanish so I found a community college that was affordable online, but they didn't take all my classes then we moved again & I decided to find a schoool where I could get my entire degree online so if we moved, or if my husband got deployed again & I went back home for a while it wouldn't interrupt my classes.

Liberty took ALL of my classes, plus I use my husband's GI bill to pay for it (without that I would definately not be going there unless I got a job that would pay for it!!), but I'm testing out of as much as I can because I only want to use the GI bill for the major courses so I have more of it to use for my Master's, but Liberty is a great school it's the best I've been to they call you to see how you're doing and they know all about military benefits and the Christian part really is just that you have to take courses like theology & philosophy just like you might at any other college, they just teach is from a christian/ biblical viewpoint, other than that the other courses are just like a normal school, the teachers just post encouraging scriptures & stuff like that.

But anyway I called and they said to fill out a transfer inquiry form and they would look into it and let me know but I think as long as it's an ACE accredited course they should take it. I'm still hoping to pass the DSST thoughSmile

Well, I've been studying for the last 2 weeks (well over 50 hours) using IC, Idiot's guide to statistics, Khan Academy videos on statistics, & the statistics workbooks for dummies, etc & I understand the concepts and based on others that have taken the test it is passable if you study and the grading curve is low (dsst site says 42%-46% correct to pass & I just took a peterson test & got 48% right) I've even seen people that said they only studied for 3 or 4 days & passed (barely) but I would NEVER do that, I want to at least make sure I've made every effort to learn as much as possible. I just need some more time to study to solidify the concepts in my head & practice the problems some more....I figure it's worth a shot to trySmile

Well my peeps, this is it...less than 24 hours until the exam, so I can't back out now...unless I cancel tomorrow and lose my $20. I'm just gonna study some more this evening and tomorrow before the test and hope that what I know combined with educated guesses and the forgiving grading curve will be enough for me to pass!

I PASSED!!! Got a 424! This exam REALLY is forgiving! I almost thought I would pass out at the test center, but the test was not too bad, I did all the ones that were theory or I could work easily first. I was left with about 30 and of those I knew how to work about 10, the rest were guesses. Could have scored higher but I only learned how to do the basic problems. This test IS passable & not as hard as you would think it would be. Anyone thinking of taking this one I HIGHLY recommend joining IC read the feedback & with 2-4 weeks of consistent study you CAN pass this one! I was so nervous I had e-mailed my school to see if they would take straighterline, but hahaha I don't need it now!!

Happy to have that one DONE! Thanks everyone for your support.

Did you ever hear back from Liberty about whether or not they accept Aleks? I'm trying to research their transfer policies and having a bit of a hard time. If you happen to know their limits on the amount of Clep and DSST exams they accept, that would be a blessing. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
